The idea that we need to attract those that currently support AFL and NRL is where the stupidity starts.

No-one says this anymore, do they?

The challenge is to engage the millions of people involved with the game in Oz who couldn't give a rat's about the AL.

And the only real way to do that is to unite the pyramid. If every NSL club in Oz felt themselves to be any sort of chance of making the AL then interest in the game would explode overnight.

But no... got to protect those 2034 contracts.

Do you know if any analysis was then done on the impact to crowds in the first 8 weeks of the season?

I had a look at it a while ago, here's what I put together last year:

i don’t think it is all about connecting the pyramid, though it is important. I think more effort/resources/$$ should be directed to attracting people to watch football at their local clubs, instead of trying to force them to support 16 franchises, two of which are in NZ. For example, aim to double the crowds of every NPL club in all states..
