Big Ange thread

yer re the next 2 games, Toon at home are very hard to beat - I can't even see a point, a ET winner by Arse last game they are recovering from post Isak hangover.
Chelsea they face at home and the Blues been eradic - thats all I can say depending which Chelsea turns up like at Brighton.
They are hurt so look out for Palmer/Neto/Pedro etc they have some guns compared to Ange's.

As I have previously said on this thread, he can’t keep the same style he had with Brisbane roar in 2012. Football keeps on evolving, for Ange, he likes to stay one dimensional, and he is being left in the past. The end is nigh.

Mostly the case. There is also evidence of changing in game and being more defensive. The European competitions last year were an example.

I wonder how Ange's system changed or was probably just in its infancy 26 years ago? Peak was 2012 to 2021 or so.

Almost a waste of breath for those on social media referring to last league season. Spurs tanked it in order to focus on Europe. They had too many injuries and couldn't afford to go all out in both.

The same issue is starting to occur at Forest already. Injuries in a squad that's probably pissed off about the manager change.

The challenge to rectify this is exciting but the current status quo isn't. Plenty of talking points.

Guardiola is more than a cheque-book manager, he is lucky to be born in Catalonia i'll give you that, but he had to work hard for everything else including being accepted into La Masia. Then he had to cement his place in the first team and become a great captain of the club. The rest is history.

Ange has always been ahead of the curve with most clubs he's taken over. As LFC mentions above, the game at the highest level has caught up to him and overtaken him.

If you can't find a way to win, the only option a club chairman has is to show you the exit door otherwise it is relegation.
Granted he had to work to be a first team player at Barcelona, but in terms of management, he has never really had to earn his stripes as such. He has walked into clubs that were top of their leagues, have the cheque books, and have never really had to struggle with signing top players.

He also took over a Barca that had some amazing prime players.

Any manager would have been on a hiding to nothing taking this gig - no preseason, takes over 3 games in, has 4 away games first up, fair amount of brand new players. Before this morning you'd say the team were looking pretty good all things considered.

Then the man who never has a plan B goes to three CBs and Murillo goes down again with some contact injury and he is forced to revert back. I mean Forest had a Leicester level run with injuries to their starting XI last season and Murillo and Milenkovic almost played every game together.

I get it after a while it eventually begins amounting to excuses, but everything has context and no one will convince me that the likes of Pep would be doing any better...I mean he wouldn't even have the balls to try!!

It's almost like there's some magic in the stars that need to happen. Forest had so many shots and 9 on target last night. The goals conceded were more due to bad player decisions than the actual tactics. They've got to do their job on the pitch.

If a team trusts themselves to press against Guardiola and attack the his system comes undone quickly. Didn't Ange win 4:0 once? Areta was going on about his side having been the best at City away for years. They didn't even win.

This should actually be exciting. There's a massive challenge now and every game will have tension and that's when it's best being a fan and the relief of scoring makes you roar. The glass is half empty. They're still attacking and showing remorse at errors. The body language could be a lot worse.

I literally see no connection between these Ange teams and Brisbane Roar, of course his coaching has evolved, whats changed for him is the level. In Scotland he could go all Guardiola on the other teams because he had the biggest budget and best players, as i said earlier he could have held out for a bigger club but was too eager to get back into it, he chose a team that was on a negative trajectory.

Anyone know why Ange looks at the floor in post game interviews? Is it only after a loss?

I argue that winning the J League is incredibly tough given how many good clubs there are. It's no mean feat.

In Scotland he turned the points deficit to Rangers totally around but the rest of the league just submits to the big clubs.

The media pile on here is mental. Yes, it's a tough business but pack it on all the others hacks in current roles doing poorly too. They've won nothing, had a pre season and picked their players. Ludicrous.

There's so much football to be played. Let the coach and players work.

His first season in Scotland is underated, the Rangers team he was up against made the Europa final. The difference in Scotland though is you're playing so many shit teams that you can iron out the problems whilst still winning, it took Ange about 4 months to overtake Rangers and he did it in style. In England you're afforded no such opportunity, historically Ange is very thorough with what he wants so its mind boggling he took the Forrest job without doing a pre season with them. He may have to cut his losses and go back to Celtic post Rodgers cos as it stands thats the only place in the UK where he is still loved.

The looking on the floor thing, i have no idea if thats crept in since he went to Europe, he never had that hideous cough here either lol.

Celtic would be so incredibly boring. Give a German club a go I'd say.

Re: Ange playing a back three in Nottingham Forest loss to Midtjylland

"When Ange was coaching the Socceroos in his last months, there was controversy surrounding his use of a back three formation, particularly the 3-2-4-1 system. It was widely criticized for making the team vulnerable defensively, especially against counter-attacks and quick transitions, leading to the team conceding a lot of goals in several matches."

"Critics argued that the back three exposed defensive weaknesses, notably because the players struggled to cover the spaces left behind when wing-backs pushed forward. Some believed the system required player qualities that the Socceroos did not entirely possess at the time."

"There were calls for Postecoglou to abandon the back three system in favor of a more stable back four to protect the defense better. Despite these criticisms, Postecoglou was known for his strong belief in his methods and was reluctant to change formation radically. The controversy intensified as results suffered, leading to heated debates about whether the back three was the right tactical choice for the Socceroos given the players at his disposal."

"Postecoglou’s use of a back three with the Socceroos was controversial because it led to defensive vulnerabilities and many goals conceded. The criticism stemmed from a combination of the formation's inherent risks and perceived mismatches between the system and the players’ abilities, coupled with defensive execution issues during transitions."

The back 3 for Australia was shaky because players like Wright weren't mobile enough for it. Ange now has EPL players so they should've played a back 3 at least once in their career. Jurman did well when called upon.

There's lots of studies and evidence about very intelligent competent people and communicators that don't always look people in the eye when talking to them. He usually does this far more post match compared to pre-game pressers. Likely because he is internally reflecting about the game and what has just been asked of him, also to a room full of cameras and microphones which I'm sure most people wouldn't love.

I'm pretty sure he took over Yokohama mid season, they finished 12th and then won the league in the next season for their first title in 15 years. Hardly an easy task as you rightly said.

Not sure how going three at the back for the Socceroos nearly 10 years ago is connected in anyway to Forest playing three at the back for half an hour yesterday morning.
