Disagree. Because weaker teams have improved relative to powerhouses through this process.

Except I am disappointed that Brazil’s flair seems to have disappeared.
 
I’ve just read an article suggesting EPL clubs are chasing Bos.

Yet I think by his own lofty standards he has had a disappointing WC - so far.

I’d contend he might be better off where he is, because of the chance to play UEFA intracontinental football, which only the top 5-6 EPL clubs get to play.

Not just brazils flair loads of flair has been stifled world over.
Robotic but you like it that way.
You quote you don’t like the top end commercial leagues well that’s where all this comes from because of the $ that has gone into it.
Weaker clubs have improved due to more money filtering down the channels in turn invest, better facilities coaching etc naturally $ helps improvements.

I wish !
Most Aussie hopefuls can’t break through in Portugal it seems.
I wish for they keep producing crops of players in top flights.
Belgium have we any there ?

The answer to players coming through, or not, is the shitey coaching methods being currently used, is, as you say, stifling flair and players too afraid to play off the cuff a wee bit. Release the handbrake and let them play furfuxsake
 
Its hard to compare generations as players are improving all the time. Heck, the newcastle jets probably win the 1974 world cup

In the end the rest of the world improved faster than us and we went backwards in relative terms. The gg players were unbelievable by our standards and had very good club careers

bos, volpato and circati are of the required standard and hopefully just the first in a production line

well lets not get ahead of your stats mind Jets facing a Beckenbauer/Muller West Germany haha

Yes ofcourse hard to compare gens to gens and playing tactics.
Fact of the matter is the many GG players did gain the required standards of the times and more than those 3 you mentioned.

Yep Bos/Circati/Volpato are bar - the production line needs alot of work still.

I think its cultural. Its no co-incidence that those last three names have European heritages where technique and touch are valued over physicality. Conversely you look at players like Irvine, Leckie, even Cahill. Exceptions exist of course but in general I think its true.

It isn’t I don’t like the leagues, but that money dominates football.

The notion of supporting one’s local club with local players playing, disappears.

Even in the early 80s when Liverpool was doing well in Europe there was an element of local playing cattle.

Leckie is Maltese. The former are physically and athletically gifted as well as technical.
 
The point I’m making is that regardless of tactics, you still need ball players who can retain possession. If you can’t string 3 passes together your defence never gets a break from the pressure and hence are more likely to make an error. You get forced deeper and deeper because you never get the chance to come forward. The opposition meanwhile has nothing to fear when you’re going the other way.
Regardless of the tactics, that first 45 minutes against the US was rubbish football.

Locally no that is not disappearing - though at Pro levels in the bigger leagues $ keeps being filtered down and sponsors a plenty.
Some would say this is growing/improving the levels below, you quote about Wrexham for eg - others would disagree one reason being Clubs DNA's are being eroded.

Commercialism commenced already mind you and in the '80's.
Canon, were the first time ever League sponser 83/84.
This was the beginning.
The huge one was '92 the EPL as we know today and the start of Sky Sports.
The rest is history.
Club revenues are massive, locals are being left behind - I get it - I'd rather see TAA/Jones and other scousers get their chance but its all about the $ - survival.
You either go with it or opt out but your watching the better players/robots :) week in week out.

One thing that fascinates me is that even in the 80s only a minority of fans at games had a team jersey. It was just scarfs.
