It's besides the point. He is so versatile and can be played anywhere in midfield or out wide.

Popovic's 2 behind the striker are named as inside forwards and if we're going to split hairs then Robertson wouldn't be out of place in that territory either.

Had we selected Robertson instead of Hrustic that would have left us with one less RW and one extra CM. Yes Hrustic can play CM but his best posi is RW. And yes Robertson could theoretically play RW (not that ive ever seen or heard of him play there) but he is obstensibly a CM/DM.

And the 2 players behind the striker are not AMs they are narrow/inside wingers. Even if you want to argue they are AMs, Robertson has played majority of his games for Cardiff in the double pivot, not at AM. Checking on Tramsfermarkt he played a total of ONE match last season at AM and ZERO on either wing. He is a CM/DM mostly.

Mabil could've been played more and in hindsight Velupillay would've been a waste.

Drop Devlin despite his brilliance as Popovic refused to play him and add Younis.

Popovic got his selections and position balance wrong. Trewin at RWB in a knock out game...
 
Robertson is better deeper but it was interesting how deep and central our two inside forwards were at times. I guess that was Metcalfe roaming. Metcalfe should just be our RWB and then adapts and assists everywhere.

Thought of this also but issue with our system is that the wingbacks are our only players providing true width. If you put a left footer at RWB then he'll look to come inside which reduces the width and space and also takes away the crossing option, espically as we use inverted wingers.

Id actually drop Behich from here on in and select Metcalfe as backup LB/utility.

Rwb can be covered by Italiano, Overy, Bennie and Miller.
