Australian transfers 25-26 Winter

If he gets the space Goodwin has a absolute weapon in his left foot but yet another that the Popa system does not accommodate.
The Popovic system accommodates our worst technical players. Ridiculous it's tailored towards Irvine and Miller.

The narrowing of the front 3 with McGree and Metcalfe is alright provided the ball be moved their quickly. We kept going sideways against Colombia and never used the space ahead.

Mathew Ryan, Paul Izzo, Cameron Burgess, Jackson Irvine, Craig Goodwin, Mitch Duke, Martin Boyle might make the 2026 squad and the Asian cup early 2027 squad but that should be there swansong. Others may struggle too but these are 7 to replace very quickly
Burgess has just turned 30. He might have a couple years or more left yet.

Khoa Ngo has been linked with a move to Vietnam.

He should stay at Perth, he’s doing very well off the bench at the moment.

Maybe - but we need to refresh by 2030 - he will be 34 by then. Bring in Matthews after the Asian Cup ealry next year and give hon the qualifiers to get comfortable. 2030 is too late for the older players to move on - they need to give the new ones a chance - assuming they are pushing for selection. i.e. You don't give caps away - but you are not a permanent incumbent. Orderly transition is the key and something we have never been good at.

Will be plenty coming through by 2030 to add to the choices at CB eg Esposito, Kikianis, Herrington etc

My point stands - we need to move on post 2027 Asian Cup. Without even considering those three. The only one of Mathew Ryan, Paul Izzo, Cameron Burgess, Jackson Irvine, Craig Goodwin, Mitch Duke, Martin Boyle I would keep take to the 2027 Asian Cup is Ryan. And that would be his swansong with Steven Hall joining the keepers after that.

Those three can be added. Whether any make it by 2030 depend on the those in front. Fairly young Circati, Souttar and Matthews in front of them will slow them but they could still push.

Japan as a rule makes significant "generation changes" immediately after a World Cup tournament finishes and throughout the subsequent qualifying campaign and friendly matches leading up to the next one.

I've only been keeping half an ear out for these. What have I missed?

A change of scene for Yengi, Milanovic, Hollman, our League One keepers and J-Leage Aussies are needed.

The recent moves from Arzani and Tilio look like busts already - but moves for them feel early.

I most want to see a Bennie continental move. If he got the right club he'd be the bolter for the WC squad.

Gabriel Cleur has reportedly fallen out with Western Sydney Wanderers head coach Alen Stajcic and subsequently walked from the club, effective immediately. Nothing confirmed yet but rumours pointing to him becoming a free agent as he ends up clubless.

Aberdeen boss just got sacked. It’ll be interesting to see if that changes the fortunes of the Aussies there.
Oh I thought the entire situation was on Yengi! Their fans have realised no other striker can do anything either because there's no service and a bad system. Hopefully this will change.

Mainz interested in Borna Sosa from Palace. I've been less baffled by the big exclusion because Kasey Bos featured really often in pre season and against some decent opponents too.

He was in Jordan's Christmas photo with his arm in a sling.

Ruben Amorim sacked at Man United too so I wonder if James Overy now comes onto the bench sometimes. Stupid decision to sack him though given Man U are having a good season so far.
