I think our players can still be appreciated abroad but it's not like the times when Lazaridis was a stand out.
What frustrates me is the players from other countries get the gigs based on early talent but following them over the years, they seem to simply exist in big Italian or Spanish squads. They're good but not worldbeaters. In turn this environment enables their skillet to grow and at least flatten out.
A lot of our players don't even get the chance and then fade away. I'm not saying it's anti Australian, it's just the massive pool compared to the past. That said, I feel if you see an Australian, Nigerian, Colombian and Polish flag amongst 4 candidates, we're going to be 4th choice.
I just wonder to what level our players could grow if provided the training and support. Lord knows how many from other nations have had a go and haven't exactly fulfilled expectations.
