Australian news and politics.

that's a great deflection, straight out of Albo's playbook?

The only thing Albo has done since the attack is call out for tougher gun laws, and calm over the fear of right-wing violence. lol

Still waiting for him to call it out for what it actually is.

Guns don't kill people, people do.
You do realise that the shooters are religious right wing nutjobs.

At the end of the day, nobody should bring their grievances and any of their bullshit full stop from foreign wars (current or past) here. Nobody.

What about Ustase supporters who want to chant slogans here that are banned in their own country. They're ok aren't they?

Albanese announces new laws cracking down on hate speech and preachers of hate after Bondi beach attack

Still dancing around the root cause. Zero accountability for the mass immigration and poorly vetted muslims into this country.

Plenty of war criminals here from the breakup of Yugoslavia.

Probably should have vetted those blokes a bit better as well.

Rambo gives us a good life lesson...how long until the side you're being told by the government to support ends up being the bad guys and vice versa? All this government thought police will end up bad...

This looks like the policy response fro labour

The right way but it needs to be enforced. The preachers who have their live streams spouting filth need to be sent to The Simpson desert. One already dared the government to revoke his citizenship and I think he managed to win in court.

Just wonderful that Jewish people are getting there own specific carve out. Any reason that that statement is not more generic?

Are Jewish people the only people vilified in Australia?

I dare say a few other minorities in Australia wouldn't mind their own specific hate speech laws.

Replace 'antisemitism' with 'bigotry' and you've got a pretty good set of policies.

I believe there are hate speech laws for all minorities in Australia. Jewish people are getting specific focus right now because even before oct 7 they were disproportionately targeted compared to other religious minorities, including muslims. After oct 7 that number rose a few hundred percent and just experienced a mass murder targeting them. I think anti-Jewish hatred needs particular focus right now

Goal: Outlaw any criticism of Israel.
Outcome: Achieved.

Hilarious to think this is anything else.

The rules should apply equally to everyone.

There have been laws for years. The problem is the very high standard of proof needed to get a conviction. Otherwise Howard, Hanson, Latham, Hadley, Annings, Abbott, Credlin, Jones and most of the Murdoch (especially Sky after Dark) so called journalists would have been in trouble years ago. Whenever attempts are even mentioned to make changes all we hear from the same people is that is against freedom of speech.

Bloody oath.

I never gave a shit about Israel for 50 years until they started slaughtering 10s of thousands of people and flattened Gaza.

And then that prick PM of theirs started sticking his nose into our affairs.

Fuck right off if they think they're above criticism. Netanyahu is a fucking war criminal and needs to be treated with utter contempt for the cunt he is.

Criticism of Israel is fine and there's plenty of rational discourse about. It's the calling of eradication of jews that needs clamping down on. Not to mention journalist falsehoods brought to you by Palywood. Israel lie too of course. It's a shit show that I wish would stay in that region.

Rightly so that the standards are high. It actually protects us all. In saying that, I don't think these politicians are anywhere near in their words compared to the preachers calling for death and terror.

These leaders and journalists may be reprimanded by breaking standards or sacked for misconduct but they're not some dodgy cleric livestreamer alluding to kill them all.

Like the coddling of Islamic clerics which allow these things to happen?

I agree it should be equal yet the imbalance is there in the west. Imagine if a jew had gone to western Sydney and shot 15 people. Do you think there wouldn't be murderous retaliation in the Eastern suburbs this week? Same with the UK synagogue attacks. No retaliation. Attack a mosque and it's the spark that will lead to civil war in the UK.
