Well citing the Guardian of all sites as balanced makes it obvious I was onto something. The green-haired line was harsh apologies but it's obvious only a leftie would suggest the Guardian as balanced.

That's Reddit style lunacy.
 
I have literally never posted on Reddit, so I don't know what you're talking about.

The Guardian has a leftist editorial bent, but as I mentioned pages ago, it's one of multiple news sources that I read. That's how I maintain balance in the media I consume. I was interested to understand whether you did the same, and unless I've missed something the answer appears to be "no".

As for reading multiple sources yes I do but still take anything leftie organisations put out with a pinch of salt.

Not here to take a side, but I think everyone would claim that a news source that opposes their view would not be balanced or fair.

I feel like confirmation bias is such a big thing now, on both sides.

A$3 to 7.00 a large schooner.
I’m told ciggies yesterday by someone A$3 or so pack of 20.
Buying fresh fruit though is expensive.

We're being royally ripped off by this government.

Anyone who can seriously tell us with a straight face that we've been better off under this government then they need to admitted to the nuthouse.

Australia as a country is being absolutely destroyed.

Whist excise on cigarettes is very high here the excise on beer isn't. It amounts to 43.4 c/L for draught beer in kegs (full strength). Thats about 18.5c per schooner. Accounting for some spillage its around 20c a schooner and around 27c per pint. I looked this up earlier this year when petrol went up and they cut the excise as people argued they could do the same for beer. Excise is a pretty small part of the cost of a beer at a pub.

If that's really the case why is beer so expensive in this country?

Last time I went to a state league game the cost of a can of beer was $8-12. That is fucking absurd.

I edited the post with a link to the ATO site that lists all the alcohol excise rates. It's higher on packaged beer (63.7 c/L) or about 24c per can. I've no idea of the other costs. Excise is small. GST is 1/11 of the cost. Every beer seller will have their own costs they need to cover, but the main reason the price is high is because we will pay it. Thats the free market in action.

If your a smoker excise is over $1.50 a cigarette

The ato example mind you is not real world end user outcome…..
The establishment with the liquor license naturally has many other incurring costs to bare that I’m sure you know hence the final price over the counter is 3/4 times more than your presenting above.
We have been getting ripped off for decades let alone recently times that will be increasing the way we’re going.
From a retail outlook this morning here in Japan.

A bag full all for A$150.
This would have been easy $300+ back home.

Our salaries are OTT - our tax’s are OTT !!! Our governance is a basket case.
Sadly I see NO light due to a very weak opposition.
