They're a mix of a democratic socialist and social democratic party, not a communist one.
While both political ideologies historically stem from the broader labor and socialist movements of the 19th and 20th centuries, they have fundamental differences in their goals, methods, and beliefs....

In Australia, the ALP and communist groups (like the Communist Party of Australia, which existed throughout the 20th century) were often fierce political rivals. During the Cold War, the ALP actively distanced itself from communism, and the party actually split in the 1950s largely over internal debates on how to combat communist influence in trade unions.

In short, the ALP operates entirely within Australia's constitutional democracy and regulated market economy, whereas communism seeks a fundamentally different social and economic order.

It's frustrating when people use political labels inaccurately, especially in today's highly polarised climate.

A lot of this confusion comes from "political labeling inflation," where complex political philosophies get flattened into internet insults. In modern political discourse both in Australia and globally terms like "communist" or "socialist" are often thrown around by critics as catch-all buzzwords for any government intervention, regulation, or public spending.

When people don't look into the actual policies or history, it's easy for those labels to stick.

It's a reminder of how valuable political literacy is. When people understand the actual spectrum of political thought, it makes for much better, more productive conversations about what policies actually work for the country.....

99.99% percent of the time we cook/eat breakfast at home however periodically Mrs EZ wants to take us all to breakfast. Now I'd be happy with two pieces of vegemite toast and black coffee so I sit quietly whilst the family demolishes the GDP equivalent of a small nation & Mr EZ has to pick up the tab. Last time this beachside orgy of cafe breakfast occurred it came to 165 dollars whilst I quietly wept.

Thing is whether you have the means or not, it’s usually not about whether you can afford the $39, it’s the psychological friction of the value proposition. You look at a plate of two eggs, a couple of rashers of bacon, some mushrooms, and bread, and yes, your brain automatically does the "I could make this at home for $6" calculation. The gap between the cost of the raw ingredients and the retail price has just become too wide to ignore.

Mrs LFC would be having kittens paying that much she's the tightest of tight you know what.

I do see our grown kids saying going to brekky, smashed avo etc always order OTT I expect, stupid money spending imo.

They do that thing where nothing comes as a fucking meal now. You need to pay extra for everything

The pub the other day wanted me to pay an extra $1 for sauce on the already overpriced chips. I mean, it's a $1 but wtf

We christened our Pop the $2 shop man - and here we are called a tight arse hahaha I put my hands UP LOL.........

Fark I am not going to pay those OTT prices regularly like F u l says costs you 2bob if done at home.
Don't get me wrong I have now and then and regret it in spades thinking ffs what a rort.
I'd sooner spend that kind of dough on good bottle of red that I do with sheer drinking pleasure :)
