Spoken like a true dyed in the wool Labor stooge.

Sorry - but you have no idea of me or my background. I used to visit Canberra regularly with my family to visit the best treasurer Australia never had - Harry Edwards. He backed Peacock over Howard and never got the gig. Professor of Economic Theory at Sydney University and then Foundation Chair of Economics at Macquarie University.

I don't have to but your constant pro-Labor, anti-LNP posts paint the picture that you're a dyed-in-the-wool Labor stooge.

If we're headed for a forever Labor government then Australia's days a democracy are finished and we're now a one-party state.

I'm not pro-Labor - I'm pro middle Australia - what the Liberal party used to represent. Show me a Liberal Party like that. The party of McPhee, Viner, Holt, Gorton, Fraser, Chaney, Peacock, Hill even Amelia's grandfather Dick Hamar.

You embarrass yourself using words like that, saying that believe that we're heading for a one party state then calling anyone a "stooge" who presents a reasoned argument makes you a "right wing nut job". Unless you're happy to be labelled as such don't squeal like a bitch when someone disagrees with you.

You are exactly the poster child of what I was referring to.

A typical far left communist who wants a one party state with Labor in government permanently.

People like you hate democracy.

If wanting Australia's best interests for it to be a real democracy makes me a right wing nutjob in the eyes of left wing loonies like you that's fine with me.

Come in spinner.

Great to have them but why aren't there bigger efforts for local recruitmentand training? I'd like to think the conditions are the same for a local nurses. So many professions just aren't attractive to the local populace anymore.

You've got German bakers bringing in 15 young Indonesians or Vietnamese. It's all about control and abuse. The employer holds the power over them and the relationship isn't reciprocal. They've mistreated and underpaid the local staff for years and how they can't find anyone so the recruitment goes elsewhere.

To call Albanese a old communist is basically saying people are stuck in time. He is now a pragmatic neo-liberal. He is probably closer to a moderate liberal. To be honest the closest in the Liberal Party to Albanese is probably the guy who lost Menzies, Keith Wolohan. Both from diametrically opposed viewpoints - but both about getting things done instead of playing culture wars.

Look him up - that's where the Liberal Party should be.

Albo is playing the game. And well (not that I like him or think he's doing an outstanding job).

There is no denying the country is more stable than previous years, but that's cause he plays the middle.

He'd get re-elected.

Lots of locals don't want to work. They'd rather complain that their jobs are being taken.

I don't think so either - but the point stands. House and land packages are finished articles. That's what is being offered. Years ago people moved in without a driveway, without fences, without curtains, without carpets or tiles. If you bought an older house it was 2 beds and a sunroom, some with an outside toilet. after 40 years they are the 2 story 4 beds that exist now.

We are comparing a market that is completely different.
I don't think the point can still stand if you think people are after mansions. A bit unfair to blame people buying for the actions of the developer. If a package is being offered, people go with whats offered. I think that points to how housing has become a commodity seen as a way to make money rather a human right. Developers offer packages that don't necessarily meet the requirement, but then people have to go with that option or have nothing.

Obviously can't compare what was available then with now. In saying that, even if people bought those houses back then, they were earning enough to do the renovations the way they want. Now, you buy a house - even a run down one - and you are basically going to struggle to do it up because of the extreme cost of housing, the stagnation of wages, the giveaway of our resources, and the selling out to corporate donors.

I know that last part simplifies it a bit, but it's an easy way to understand.

The LNP almost won Stafford in Brisbane’s outer suburbs, a Labor heartland. Way ahead on primaries but Labor won on Greens preferences.

Gotta say from an outsider’s perspective Queensland’s LNP government are really doing well and deserve another term.
