Australian news and politics.

All fair points made of course HSF. It's just so evident how done people are with mainstream parties and they're going to look elsewhere along the spectrum.

It's all lobbying and jostling. The German Left are really hard on their housonh policy only for the same housing boards who promote building telling them it won't work. It's a catch 22 situation.

What annoys me is that the same topics are being discussed in Germany since I arrived in 2009. I'm tired of hearing 'we need to, we must'. Fucking do it! Or at least try it in a limited form. I think every country has a topic where political slowness and hesitation sees any chance of success evaporate. That's not to say change doesn't take time but we're going to get nowhere by doing nothing. Looking at you, Merkel.

Interestingly Jesus himself (who was Jewish, not Arab, unless you mean Muhammad) never actually spoke about homosexuality. And in the Bible, he ate dinner with tax collectors and said to a group of religious leaders about a woman who committed adultery: "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone."

Religious fanatics do not follow the words of Jesus, they cherry-pick bits and pieces to hurt people. Take MAGA for example. They oppose gay marriage "because the Bible says" but worship (idolatry) a greedy billionaire who is a rapist and paedophile, never prays or goes to church, never gives to the poor unless it’s for a stunt, etc. Or the Russian Orthodox Church perhaps, they praise Vladimir Putin despite his genocidal war in Ukraine, which goes against the Sixth Commandment ("thou shall not kill").

Religion is about interpretation, yes. But fanatics completely ignore parts while literally taking others.
The 7th commandment though, demands no sexual relationships outside of marriage. I mean God destroyed the whole city of Sodomites... .. Poor Onan got killed for jerking off into a sock too.... Jesus preaches that adultery in thought is the same as adultery in action... he may not have explicitly said dont put your dick in another man but it is implied that since men can't marry then they shouldn't have sex...

He DID however take a stand on repentance and acceptance of personal atonement for sin... Melania Magdalene was saved from a public stoning for a reason.

Had to laugh when I googled poor old Onan, another one of the STRANGE biblical stories. You sure about the sock?

The new government, also shit, have just overturned the unfeasible energy policies
I'm staggered that Germany went all in cheap Russian gas and metaphorically burned their nuclear program to the ground. One of the most baffling energy policies I've ever seen. They were warned years and years ago pre Ukraine not to go down that path.

They thought they could be a trailblazer and there were nerves about a Fukushima. Yet the Belgian and French won't shut down their love for nuclear so an explosion there will obliterate Germany too.

Wait until you learn Lot's daughters got their father pissed in order to be impregnated by him because other blokes were in short supply.

What a wonderful book to draw inspiration from.

('You're just cherry picking'). Lol. Yeah nah, that's farken grim.

Word is they're floating the idea that you can only negatively gear 2 properties.

Without knowing all the details that seem like a fair compromise.

NSW Opposition Leader Kellie Sloane, the Liberal MP for the Eastern Suburbs seat of Vaucluse, was with other state Liberal MPs at Mardi Gras this week, including a meeting with Dayenu (a Jewish LGBT group here in Sydney; Vaucluse is the most Jewish seat in NSW). Photos posted to her Instagram story.

I wonder how many Andrew Hastie/One Nation cooker boomer culture warriors will be mad about this one lol. "How dare she openly parade with other human beings who support equal rights!"

Well in their pea minds they're not 'humans'.

Victoria looks like they will legislate for 2 days a week WFH.

Fucking moronic.

People will just hire overseas. Why pay some cunt here to sit at home when you can get someone overseas to do it for 1/5 of the cost?

Also, forget about people in factories and posties etc lol, this just for the new generation of softcawks

There's a by-election this Saturday in the electoral division of Nightcliff, located in Darwin's Northern Suburbs. It's considered the Northern Territory's most left-leaning electorate and one that surprisingly elected a Greens member last time over former Labor Chief Minister Natasha Fyles (who resigned and was replaced by Eva Lawler who was so unpopular she lost a landslide to Lia Finocchiaro's Country Liberals). Greens MP Kat McNamara (the fairly disorganised Territory Greens' only ever representative in a non-local government legislature) resigned.

The candidates are Labor's Ed Smelt (a Darwin City Council councillor), the CLP's Anjan Paudel (a lawyer who is a member of Darwin's Nepalese community), the Greens' Suki-Dorras Walker (a former teacher who was the Greens candidate for the seat of Fannie Bay which the CLP narrowly won) and independent candidate Phil Scott (a teal who ran for Greater Darwin's federal seat of Solomon at the 2025 election).

Personally I think the CLP has done a great job in government, avoiding any culture warring and working hard on fixing issues like crime and cost of living, so hopefully the Finocchiaro government is rewarded with at least a swing. However, it’s quite unlikely they’ll win this seat. Labor gain I’m guessing.

Anyway, I'll be watching the results out of curiosity and will post to keep the forum updated. As for other elections, South Australia has a state election on 21 March (including an election to the state's Voice to Parliament), the City of Newcastle will have a lord mayoral by-election on 18 April, while the Tasmanian Legislative Council will be partially elected on 2 May, the same date as the by-election for the Victorian seat of Nepean. Federally, the Farrer by-election's date is yet to be confirmed.

"ACCC has put the petrol giants on notice"

what a fucking joke
I just read a (unconfirmed) story, of someone being told by the servo mid pump to stop, so they could reset the bowser, and the price jumped 21c....
