Australian news and politics.

Whilst the rest of the useless cunts were filming mass murder for posterity this guy stepped up and has accumulated enough karma points for several lifetimes.

Sorry mate I wouldn't call them 'useless cunts'. No one is running at someone with a long range weapon when they're perched on a footbridge with open fields of fire unless you can surprise them like old mate did.

Old mate had the opportunity and massive balls to take it but I think you're being a bit harsh on others.

Also an elderly couple were both shot dead early on trying to intervene.

Two big holes in the regime

Removing, or at least halving, the CGT discount is a start, but nowhere near enough.

Part of the reason the imbalance exists, apart from the advent of neoliberalism in the 1980s, is that capital became more mobile with the invention of the internet.

Capital taxation has become a matter of competition between countries trying to attract it or to be the place where rich people say they live.

That isn't going to change, which means capital taxation must focus on immobile capital — that is, minerals in the ground as well as housing above it, neither of which can be relocated to the Bahamas.

Australia doesn't tax its mineral wealth anywhere near enough, which everyone knows.

Labor tried to do something about that in 2010 with the Resource Super Profits Tax, and then the Minerals Resource Rent Tax in 2012, both of which were opposed by the Coalition and the mining industry (of course), and eventually repealed.

Presumably, the Coalition would oppose it again but, as it did with the GST, would introduce it once in power, having opposed it in opposition.

Which brings us to inheritance and the primary residence, the two big holes in Australia's capital taxation regime.

In a way, they lead to the same thing: the perpetuation of inequality, dealt with to some extent by the Bank of Mum and Dad, but only for those with well-off parents.

Australia had inheritance taxes from 1915 to 1975, after which they were abolished during a frenzy of state competition for rich retirees, which ended up being a nil-all draw.

Australia, like most other first world economies will have to broaden its tax base at some point.

And they'll probably have to tax the robots....

Automaton and AI will definitely upend the jobs market possibly for an entire generation or maybe two.

Would also add that having lots of footage of the event helps clear things up a lot quicker.
If this had've happened before the advent of everyone having a camera on them at all times, there'd be exponentially more conspiracy theories about extra shooters, unmarked government cars in the vicinity, controlled demolitions going off, etc, etc.

Imagine if Hanson had made that comment about anyone else. For example swap the word ‘Jews’ with ‘Muslims’.

Besides being non stop news, the ambassadors getting involved, you could bet your bottom dollar that she would be charged under these hate crime laws.

If they are going to have these laws then the standard should be applied to all.

A bit harsh on my part I agree. The whole thing just makes me angry.

Weird story. A0 he looks 30, B0 Why is he waving an israeli flag around?

100% more will come out about this one.
I like Hungry Jacks Whopper Burgers but I wouldn't wave a flag around with one of them just for the hell of it.
