Australian news and politics.

It's not fucked. People have been whinging about the the state of (insert name of country here) since Adam was a boy.

2000 years ago they were whinging about the 'youth of today' and the 'decay of society'.

The country is fine. So much melodrama because you don't like the PM.
Don’t appreciate that low belt insult thanks.
I’ll give it to any PM any colour religion or binary.
We all have different opinions.
The whinging here has hit the Richter scale.

Literally, cops can take you off the street and into a cell now. For nothing.

It's wild people agree with this. And they rage against communists....sounds just like them.
Happened during covid, did you complain about it then? Especially living in the police state Melbourne.

There's no low blow. I said you don't like the PM. That's clearly obvious.

Also if you're throwing stones about whinging who just said?

The future was fucked and set long long ago.
This country is nothing like it was and the last 10yrs and less has slide down the rabbit hole faster than switching off your bedroom light !

Because it sure as hell wasn't me.

I was waiting for you and I know his background very well and before articles as such
By the way may I remind you you have gone on about greedy billionaires yadda yadda but oh he’s ok.
Wonder how his accounting works around reducing his tax payments - just saying Muz.

I don't know is he a tax dodging parasite? If he is then he's not on my Christmas card list.

You do know that article is a pisstake don't you? Unless you think Andrew O'Keefe is worth $3.2 billion.

My point was is he not allowed to care about people because he has money because that's what you're intimating.

We all read posts differently - most of your political posting is quite loud hence my reaction - yes I don’t rate him much at all obviously.

Stones ? I was correcting tsf’s post more accurately.

No it wasn’t you for a change :)

Well you or I will not know at this stage but when your turning over good $$ your looking at every single angle in reducing your tax’s pretty normal eh.

Yes and you have linked that BS site a few times if I recall right hence me bringing it up - also Pocock is worth over $500M fyi

And so does many tax dodging parasites contribute by donations/care ? etc again for tax breaks - I’m glad he express$ he cares whereas some just don’t publicise it.

I must’ve missed it, who was taken without cause and locked up under the terrorism act? That sounds horrific.

Well this fucked.

If you’ve done nothing wrong you have nothing to worry about yada yada

Yep that’s how it’s been since the dark ages.
They already have all yours my info since wide world web your banking your everything else.

Our kids will adjust ahead just as every other gen in the name of progress and restrictions.

The ones who tried to overthrow him in a coup, but the police, army and people said no. So those supporters fled in exile?

I mean, if you try to overthrow someone in a coup, fail, and have to flee, pretty good chance they'll hate him. Doesn't mean they're "reasonable".

Before you come at me for not knowing, my cousin is married to them. I also spent a lot of time learning about the group and their programmes in countries outside turkey, including here in Aus.
No I don't know any supporters of Gulen and most of the Army officers that tried to coup have been locked up in jail for nearly a decade awaiting trial, I doubt they emigrated to Australia.

No the Turks I am friendly and work with are all born here and their parents migrated decades ago. They are more concerned with how their once progressive homeland has been run by a madman for the past two decades. How the once powerful Turkish Lira isnt worth the paper it is printed on, how a once Kemalist secular country is devolving back to primitive fundamentalism, how the ruling party has aligned with a rabid fascist like Bahceli and how the rights and standard of living of the beautiful Turlkish people is being eroded yer on year...

As for why I, as a Greek Australian hate Erdogan and his policies... You can take your pick:
  • He has threatened to invade Greece claiming he will come "one night"to any one of the Islands he chooses... has a major beef with Castelorizo for some reason.
  • presenting the "Blue Homeland" iredentist maps at the UN, and US Congress showing plans for invasion of Greek soveeign islands as part of :greater Turkey"
  • Despite being a joint member of NATO has a current Casus Beli threat of war against Greece shoudl Greece decide to adopt its universally agreed to riots to sovereignty of territorial waters 12 nautical miles off the copast of its Islands.... let that sink inf ro a minute... this isn't Donald Trump just musing on twitter that he wants Greenland, this is one nations with an offical declaration of conditional WAR against an ally.
  • The statements he makes again European leaders and their wives are disgraceful, Mitsotakis Yiok, Macron is a degenerate, etc etc.
  • Official government statements come out every 2-3 weeks explaining how tremendous the Turkish military arms industry is in developing new weapons, and bizarely EVERY single statement about the Tayfun and Bayraktir rocket systems for example, he is sure to let the Turkish people know that Athens and Thessaloniki (And now oddly the US bases in Adrianoupoli and Suda) are well within the limits of operational effectiveness.. why?

I am unaware that any foreign government has my biometric data. Especially one with the potential to exploit it as the USA

You think a country that is already searching people’s social media posts to find the saying bad things about their president (who is in bed with AI/tech freaks)can be trusted with things like your DNA ?

Actually scratch that.

In a backwater country had blood taken but after the not guilty verdict and paying a ‘fee’’ they said they’d destroyed sample.

I have a very good acquaintance who is Turkish and would echo your sentiment 100%.

He reckons Erdogan and those who surround him are a theatre of complete nonsense that are destroying the soul of Turkey.
Especially his increasingly repressive rule over the past years - removing checks on his own power and sidelining opponents through the judicial system.

Granted my mate is a Secularist but he is an extremely well educated and thoughtful man and doesn't do rhetoric politics or outrage. Mention 'Erdog' as he calls him and his entire persona changes.
To be fair the Turks I know arent particularly religious either but I think their criticism of Erdgan go behond the neo-Ottoman revisionism he is attempting... Its the strong arm bulling and repression of opposition they hate.. Coupled with shame at how their people are represented to the world community, and specifically Europe, who they all look towards geographicaly as well as culturally.... and I don't blame them.

tsf, agree its a concern but who/whom going to step up for the everyday person as us.
Why I say keep out of trouble - look out for yourself and fam - try help others when/where you can.
Do you not think pre tech incriminating evidence/you name it weren't tampered with ?
Its getting easier due to tech and certain people have always been on the take.

I agree and I think that the secular progressive strand of Turkish society, the one's who perhaps live in the big cities like Istanbul, who are quite cosmopolitan are feeling an increasing notions of international isolation.

There's a definite wave of religious nationalism being pushed into that part of society. And it's not wanted one little bit..

It's a very similar situation to Netanyahu and his use of ultra-conservative religious nationalism rhetoric to consolidate his base in Israel.

And while the circumstances are completely different in terms of what's happening on the ground the similarity of political personality is glaringly obvious.

Although, aside from the war in Gaza, Erdogan does not get anywhere near the blow back from the international community as Netanyahu gets.

He should!!
I agree, there are many parallels between the two despots, probably why they pretend to despise each other....

So in all this anger and hate you have towards him, do you understand why others would show hate towards other nations and leaders, like those from Israel, the USA, Australia to a degree etc etc. And why people would protest and be strongly against.

If you can't, then essentially we have a system where one side only believes them right and nothing else. It starts with F

Anger and hate are a little strong... but sure I can totally justify the condemnation of Erdogan AND Trump AND Netanyahu all in the same breath.. and quite frequently do (not sure why you constantly gloss over this?) I believe all three are criminals (and guilty of war crimes all 3 of them) , morally despicable human beings and I have no issue with people protesting against them.

I admittedly don't know much about Herzog's politics (I assume most people protesting him don't either to be honest) but I simply will not agree that Jews, or Americans or Turks are to blame for their leaders faults. There are a few on here who seem to think saying things like "Fuck the Jews" are an acceptable position to take, I don't ..... and NO before you again accuse me, I don't think the position of "Fuck the Muslims" is one to take either.....
