We'll have to wait and see how Mitch Baker runs during the rest of Indonesia's campaign with matches against Timor-Leste, Vietnam and Singapore still to come but definitely he is showing lots of promise if he managed to score a hat-trick on international debut.

They’ll need one of those. Indonesians aren’t very tall but Aussies and the Dutch are.

Does the ASEAN Championship do that? I thought he had to play three games in that or Asian/World Cup qualifiers, or a game in the Asian/World Cup.

Again still not a high level but we’ll see. We should send the Olyroos to this like how the U23 Tillies go to the women’s version (and won the last one).

Kewell hadn't played youth football so capping him tied him. Viduka was tied to us long before he made it big overseas as in those days youth tournaments tied you for life.

For a single cap to lock in from a tournament, needs to be the continental (Asian Cup) or World Cups.

I believe these would essentially be considered 'official competition matches' though, so 4 matches would lock him in (same as a WCQ)
The phrase “official competition” is defined in the FIFA Statutes as “a competition for representative teams organised by FIFA or any confederation”.

I think it's three matches to lock a player to an association which would mean that if Mitch Baker starts every match for Indonesia during their ASEAN Championship campaign then he'd be locked in by the time they face Singapore on August 7th.

The terminology used is 'fielded in no more than three matches' - so I believe still eligible to switch at 3 matches, and then the 4th locks in
 
1 official match in a recognised fifa match as an A international that is a competituve match (ie not a friendly) is all that is required to lock a player

Not correct - this is only regarding the finals tournament of the FIFA World Cup, or a continental championship (Copa America, Euros, Asian Cup, African Cup of Nations, Gold Cup or Oceania Nations Cup).

World Cup Qualifiers, Continental Qualifiers, Nations League and Regional Tournaments (like the ASEAN Championship) are considered competitive fixtures, and - depending on the overall criteria of a player attempting to switch, etc - lock in after 4+ games

Not correct..

The ASEAN championship is counted as a competitive match according to fifa rules, hence Mitch Baker is now locked in to Indonesia.

The 3 game allowance only counts for non-competitive fixtures ie friendlies.

I checked this on google gemini btw.

As per the actual document - https://digitalhub.fifa.com/m/ccab990abf45fcf6/original/ro8mje8vw98yp3rvfbmi-pdf.pdf (we'll be looking at Article 9 which starts at Page 30):
  • 'was fielded in no more than three matches at “A” international level in any kind of football for his current association, whether in an official competition or non-official competition:'
  • has never participated in any kind of football at “A” international level in the final tournament of the FIFA World Cup or a final tournament of a confederation competition.
  • The phrase “official competition” is defined in the FIFA Statutes as “a competition for representative teams organised by FIFA or any confederation”.
ASEAN would be considered an 'official competition', but not a 'final tournament of a confederation competition'

Ive just checked Gemini again and its agreeing with you now lol

As you said above, because ASEAN tournament not a Confederstion final tournament like Asian Cup.

Unfortunately though its saying Segecic cant switch back to us as players are only ever allowed a 'one time switch'.
