Australian Dual Nationals 🇦🇺🏳️

This feels like Popovic making a statement with Robertson's omission. By sitting on the fence and not committing to Australia during the qualifying campaign, it may have ultimately harmed his chances of making the final squad.

I appreciate that Popovic took a different approach with Volpato, but McGree's injury created a need that made his inclusion more valuable and easier to justify.

My hope is that this decision has the desired effect and motivates Robertson to return with a renewed hunger to force his way back into World Cup contention for 2030. Ideally, he makes himself available for the upcoming Asian Cup and World Cup qualifying campaigns, because I believe he could still technically switch his international allegiance again before the 2030 World Cup.
Once youve submitted the paperwork to switch once, and then you play ANY matches even underage teams, you are then locked away, so no chance of losing him. Likewise no chance of stealing Segecic back as hes now played 1 game for croatian under 21s

Why has Liam Chipperfield never been called up?

22 yrs old and played a lot of top flight games in swiss league
He’s only ever played for Switzerland’s youth teams and was born and raised there so he’d have to make a change of association which involves a fair amount of paperwork. However, he probably won’t be good enough to play for the Nati given how stacked they are so he’s certainly a future prospect.

I think two things. His interest. I think he's been pretty commited to Switzerland. And there is stiff competition at right forward in the National Team. Makes me wonder if we have even approached him.

I guess we dont really have the answer on either of these things as nothing has been reported in the media. Seems to be a player the media or Australian fans in general have overlooked.

However - since his only appearances for either Australia or England have come in friendly matches, he hasn’t been initially tied to a nation by FIFA for him to need to submit paperwork

I think the former is known. There was some reporting on that. The latter I'm speculating.

Anyone know anything about this guy?

Yeah, El Salvador have been casting their net far and wide into the diaspora to try and increase their talent pool. He recently made his debut for ES U20 in some friendlies (like last week). From what I know, he’s an NPL player who has been involved in one of those academy programs that relocates you and gets you training in facilites that are ‘technically’ connected to the progressional club. By all accounts, he seemed to do well for the Salvadorean U20 team and he looks like he’s now on their radar for the short term at least (good for him!). I can’t see him as an U20 for Australia, so this would be a super cool experience for him. Also, it gives me hope that my sons could be Salvadorean internationals, even if they only make NPL haha

I was gonna say - wasn't there someone here (or perhaps even as far back as FourFourTwo forum) that was really trying to delve into Salvadoran descent in the NPL?

Is another one of Paul Okon’s boys lining up for South Africa?!

Different mum by the looks of things
That's our Ime Okon at Hannover 96! Easy name for me to pronounce. A decent season gut based on his level, plenty of our budding defenders would be fine at that level.

By no means do I think the Asian Cup should be a development squad but if the next gen are that good then we ought to include some of these players to get over the eligibility issue. The world cup squad had already shown we've got 5-6 spots we've given to deadwood and Popovic lacks faith in other decent options so we may as well sort our future with the best prospects out there.
