Australian Dual Nationals 🇦🇺🏳️

Oh fuck off Volpato. Imagine if Popovic and Okon had fostered better relationships with others to ensure clarity.

Triantis and Segecic get mixed signals but Volapto gets a visit and Suto gets a dinner.

Volpato will end up playing for San Marino.

to be fair, players have said statements like that right before defecting. I still suspect he plays for us

but the current system is starting to make international football less authentic. Would i feel less attachment to volpato if he did eventually play for us? I already feel that way about boyle (and probably will about suto)

Souttar won me over by passionately advocating for football funding in australia (made him part of the fight our community faces). So there are ways to win fans over, but on the pitch performance isn't enough to make it feel authentic

Is he actually eligible for San Marino or is this just a joke lol?

Although I'd probably start feeling more in tune with my British heritage if the progressives keep waffling on about Invasion Day and genocide like they have the last few years, lol.
aww diddums. Fact - the creation of 'australia' was brought about by horrendous, disgusting acts. Nobody alive carries any responsability but until this fact is addressed properly, australia will remain a half-baked ex-colony without a complete sense of identity. So, by all means, carry on about 'woke' like it means something and moan about 'lefties', but the tide of history will inevitably wash your outdated opinions away.

I have no idea but I'm sure there's some pathway for San Marino.
If only Vatican City were a FIFA member. He could go back to Lazio or Roma to sit on the bench, reside in the Vatican which is a city-state inside Rome, then play for them. Could get to meet the Pope inside the Catholic Church too.

I'm not sure we're ever going to see this guy in green and gold, and I'm increasingly OK with that. If he's turning down a second world cup to chase a possible future dream, it's pretty clear where his heart lies.
I think we should just cut ties and then it's up to him to make the Italy squad. If he doesn't then he won't have an international career.

So get this the coaches went over to Italy to try and convince Volpato to play for Australia because he wanted a conversation but they will tell the likes Segecic who wanted to play us that they won’t sell the shirt?

It’s like trying to convince a girl from the other side of the world to date you when she’s not that into you, but ignore another girl who wanted to try to date you but you tell her I’m not going to put the extra effort for you to try and convince me lol.

I’m just over it, the appeal to support the national team is getting smaller for me unless something is done it’s all just bluff to sell off to the masses when there is larger issues at play.

Then what is? Just being available?
Tbf he does perform when he gets opportunities. He will be coming into his peak within the next few years and hopefully something opens up for him at Sassuolo. There are very talented players in front of him but when he has been given an opportunity, he performs, aka the last two games.

Italy's squad isn't anything special currently, just being a strong Serie A player who can score/assist definitely gives you a solid chance. He should be aiming for Italy's senior team in the next 3 years. It's clear it's more about the status of playing for Italy than anything real, and evidently the World Cup doesn't mean much to him. Being a star for Australia is worth a lot more than being a slight chance to make the Italian senior team in a few years, where he may play a game and then someone younger and more talented takes his spot; it's cut-throat. I wish he had more reasonable voices guiding him.

Triantis and Segecic represented us through the age-groups and both played in the A-League, were both apart of Socceroos squads and both decided to play for other countries that they don't even live or play in.

Volpato is in Italy, playing for a Serie A club, played for Italian age-groups and who has never represented us and always maintained the same stance throughout his evolution.
I think he looks better in this situation.

the current system has a lot of issues

it hurts the authenticity of the game (even if we win players, they are often players with less connection to the country than the players we lose making it feel like club football)

it also means the rich get richer and poor get poorer. You are much more likely to get talent commit to you if you are top of the tree

It sucks but Volpato's stance does have some logic and merit.
Segecic and Triantis on the other hand have none, them playing for Croatia and Greece makes a mockery of international football.

Just had a look at Triantis stats for the season & they're nothing to write home about - I'd pick Robertson over him all day every day. There was no guarantee that he was making the WC squad with Irvine, O'Neill, Ballard, Yazbek, Robertson, Devlin ahead of him. Segecic had more of a chance, but he's gone cold over the last few months & hasn't scored a goal since January. Probably realised this & opted for the country that he really wants to play for. Segecic got hooked at HT on the weekend in a massive loss & there's a big chance Portsmouth will get relegated. No-one playing in league 1 is making the Croatian team

Guess I should be content in that my personal picks for the dual nationality battles were Circati, Irankunda and Robertson in that order and we got them all.

It's almost as if those who've opted elsewhere have started to plateau a lot.

Saw a funny tweet they'll not got more than 10 caps combined.

I’ll make a bold prediction and go as far as saying Volpato and Segecic will get 0 caps each

I thought you said you actually thought the Britosh where the "Old enemy" ? Did I misunderstand that you actively HATE your ancestry or has that changed now?
