Totally agree with Brattan, Caceres and Okon comments as well as Robertson and Toure. But Segacic is a forward and Triantis is a defensive mid-fielder. In my books, Robertson and Triantis should have been called up instead of the aforementioned three. However, None of those players play in the same position as Segacic.

Indeed yet Segecic could have taken a squad spot and then we just needed a couple of subs for players like Boyle, Velupillay and Metcalfe.

In this modern game it's not even farcical to throw Segecic on a left back for the last 5 min against Bangladesh.

Ok thanks. Based on everything I have read here now I am now pretty sure that non-official competition includes friendlies. Would be good if it could be definitely confirmed by someone in a position to do so.

I’ve seen people saying that they don’t understand how Cristian Volpato makes our squad, then I’ve seen others saying that Italian fans on Twitter apparently want him capped (which they don’t). Why would they cap an Aussie from Sassuolo’s bench when actual Italians like Federico Chiesa from Liverpool aren’t getting much game time for them?

Similarly now that Adrian Segečić has switched to Croatia, people are saying he was never good enough for us because he’s a “Portsmouth bench player in bad form”. Nobody’s said that Croatian fans want him though, and no they don’t want him.

None of those people even watch these players, very few people beyond this forum actually watch the players that they frequently reference, such as Volpato, Robertson, Segecic etc. Maybe a highlight gets posted in the A-League reddit but that's usually how far it goes.

Pretty much yeah. I wouldn’t say it’s just this forum but I guarantee a lot of them don’t follow these players as closely as we do. And outside circles like here I doubt people know much about dual internationals, players in obscure countries, technical stats, etc either.

Remember when Jordan Lyden played for Villa? He actually had some really good club stints and people couldn't believe he didn't play higher. I think he had a lot of injuries too.

Then there's Chris Herd who had his unfortunate relationship breakdown that affected him. He was in the 2015 Asian Cup squad while Mooy wasn't.

James Wesolowski was nailed on for glory but for knee injuries but carved out a good EFL career and I turned him into a god on FIFA.

What I hate is seeing flair players get rusty by not playing much. Italian and Dutch benches are cruel. They're too big. There needs to be a culture of players leaving to go play in other countries and spread the game minutes. You could make an entire new league based of Italian and Dutch benches.

says to me that because friendlies are not matches in official competition, then they must be considered part of the non-official competition category. If there were three categories (official competition, non-official competition, and others including friendlies, I would expect 20.1 to be worded as follows;

I'm gonna butt out of this now because I don't think it will get resolved one way or another by us amateurs. What is now needed is some sort of clarification by FIFA if, or when, Segecic or someone like him in the future, decides to try and reverse a change of Association, having only played Friendly/ies for the association he changed to.

The dual international diaspora conundrum seems to be growing in football but at the same time there is a backlash happening regarding awarding citizenship to diaspora also occurring.

Countries are making it harder for diaspora to automatically be eligible for citizenship, as far right parties come to power across the world. Italy’s court ruling today one example.

The AIFF can't utilise the UK's large Indian diaspora for that reason.

The most famous case is Danny Batth, he wanted to play for India but can't unless he gives up playing in England and plays in the ISL for 5 years to get an Indian passport.

A match in an "official competition" is any match (qualifiers or finals) in a competition organised by FIFA or a confederation.

All other international matches are not part of an "official competition".

If Segecic is fielded by the Croatian FA in a Croatian representative team (in any match), he is unable to reverse his change of association.

They've got plenty coming off the conveyor belt and they want to ensure some form of strength coming off a golden generation.

Wish we just played local keepers in the A League and anyone who is a Joey and above must be playing for their clubs.

Can I ask why everyone seems to celebrate when an Aussie player leaves the Aleague and moves to European league, even a second division yet everyone here seems to be devastated when another player chooses to represent a superior nation in international football?

These are just kids, trying to make their mark on the world, why cant people just be happy for them?

I'd hazard a guess and say we are more happy for us (us being fans of the Australian National team) rather than the player themselves. Ultimately we gain some joy and happiness from the Socceroos' playing/winning. Anyone who can potentially increase the likelihood of that winning feeling is glorious. Anyone who might take that away stinks. Groundbreaking
