Australian Dual Nationals šŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗšŸ³ļø

He did pick Al Hassan Toure and Okon-Jnr after they had one good game. Thats one of the reasons I’m so upset about this defection. If Al Hassan Toure is good enough for a cap after one good game, why wasn’t Segacic or Triantis good enough after one (or more) good seasons.

This is so disappointing. He was one player that I was genuinely excited to see make his debut for Australia after playing so well for Sydney FC. Such a shame.
They were both good enough and they should have been playing. If available Triantis should be a starter and Segecic an impact sub imo. Popovic fucked them around and undervalued them.

The fact they don’t have a technical director who can do this is a failure on them, relying on coach to find talent is always a risk considering they jobs are always on the line if they don’t get results.
Heather Garriock in her role as executive director of football is about as close to a technical director as we'll get but to be fair the current policy gives the coach too much control and the selection policy means that the fringe players who aren't picked with dual nationality will likely end up jumping ship most of the time unfortunately.

How is it?

Yes he played for Sydney nearly two decades ago but the facts are he has coached our two biggest rivals since.

He seems loathe to pick current or former Sydney players as a result and now we've lost one of the hottest prospects of this generation as a result.
We’re also talking about his coaching career, not his playing career.

And yeah Spurs fans hate Sol Campbell, aka Judas. Especially since he started claiming we hate him cause he’s black when one of our biggest legends is Ledley King.

MBH defending Popa hard in that thread lol.

Blaming this on Victory and WSW is pretty out there.

Weird move from the kid considering how close he is to a spot at the WC. I doubt he is good enough for the Croatian A team either. I suspect they might have offered him an opportunity for the U-21 side which he is still eligible for (2004 generation). Interestingly, they announced the squad for the upcoming qualifier against Turkey and he isn't in it.

Noa Skoko picked haha

Yazbek, Matthews, Okon, A Toure, A Grant, R Grant have all played or featured in squads for Popovic. Yep Poppa is holding a grudge...

Horrible news to wake up to... Was watching the Popa interview on Stan and apparently Paolo has been in Italy for a while now talking to Volpato weekly.

Whos in England talking to our dual internationals? Jedinak? If its no one. I'm going to be fucking furious.

If anyone has contacts in media please have them ask Poppa about this... whos in England talking to the boys? if Paolo is in Italy talking with Volpato regularly?

Ideally you have a TD and head of scouting one local and one overseas to see all of the talent.

This is a job requires time, effort, and money of course.

Who do we think will take segas spot?
Hopefully Volpato, but it was never Sega's spot anyway. He hasn't been starting & his hot streak was a while ago. We're going to be fucked if Mo Toure isn't fit for the WC, but it looks like he's returning in April. Fingers crossed. Jordy Bos could also do a job on the wing for us & play Aziz or Elder at LB/ LWB

Hard not to feel annoyed at both parties here.

Unfortunately playing for your ā€˜actual’ national team doesn’t mean as much to some players. It’s more of a business decision that will help your career progression. Always thought the FIFA eligibility rule should include a period of residency in the country you nominate to represent.

The timing of this decision just prior to World Cup is so interesting. It'd be less surprising if he made the decision immediately after Popa announced his WC squad if he wasn't chosen. To make the decision now suggests he was pretty aggrieved and perhaps thought he was no chance to be picked, having likely been made aware that he wouldn't feature in the upcoming friendlies. Given he's surely unlikely to be in Croatia's WC squad, I wonder why he has made the decision now 3 months out from WC. It's similar to Triantis where he actually wanted to be a Socceroo and Popovic's actions have led to him turning his back. If it were a different manager, I would say that it is very likely that one or both are already cap-tied Socceroos by now.

Totally agree as Adrian Segecic was a bolter and would've made waves in the green and gold for the World Cup, but instead he'll be wearing red and white checkerboard and if he gets game time for Croatia in their friendlies against Colombia and Brazil at the end of the month then he's locked away and there's no way of him reversing his decision unfortunately.
I don't like to disagree with you but what you say is actually not so.
As always, Friendlies count for nothing!

Please check the wording of the relevant Rule at Article 9, Paragraph 5. He is unable to reverse the Change of Association if he plays even one second for Croatia in a match in an Official or Non-Official Competition. Competition is the crucial wording. Friendlies are not a competition.
