Australian Dual Nationals 🇦🇺🏳️

After a few days away from the forum, someone is itching for an online spat and trying to regain the Top Monthly Contributor title! Good luck fella!

This really shits me to tears. He could've been a Socceroo for the next decade & probably played at 2 WCs at least. Not to mention, he's played with a lot of the guys in the current squad at both club level & junior NT. He just needed to have some patience. Not letting Popovic off the hook with his part in this either
It's all on Triantis mate. It was his decision. No need to attribute blame on any party. He is where he wants to be and we should just accept his decision is probably for the best all around. He is playing for the national team he wants to and in the long term we are better off without players who want to be elsewhere.

Some comments are pretty distasteful. I still think he made a hot headed decision in response to his frustration. I reckon a few posters are doing the same.
Its just a pretty lazy response to throw the whole Greek Australian footballing community under the bus for one teenager's decision and a poor handling of the situation from the national coaching staff... my opinion.

Huh? I haven’t seen that. Most people seem to be singling him out no? Who blamed the Greek Australian footballing community?

Sure, so you assume he will enjoy a summer holiday in Greece because of his deep connection to Australia?

I must admit most attempts on this forum are fairly tame but Reddit is awash with talk of "blood country" hehehe its all so 1990s...

I did threaten to put ketchup on my slouvaki on the pod and @Pasquali has put me in mandatory edi training ever since

In all seriousness what are they saying on reddit? On this forum ive mostly seen the sort of gnashing that you get when a fave player goes and plays for another club which seems pretty fair?

I'm just pissed off that he's not playing for Australia, after following his progress closely from when he was at the CCMs. He played for all of the Australian youth teams & after fantastic form playing for Hibs, finally got his first Senior call up. We all just assumed that he would be a long term Socceroo, playing with Circati, Bos, Irankunda, Toure etc for the next decade - so it was a kick in the guts for Australian football fans when he actually changed to Greece formally. Never bad mouthed his Greek heritage once or any other Greek Australian. I did however enjoy seeing Greece get bundled out of WC qualifying, as a bit of Karma for young Nectarios

I assume their citizenship/sports-representation-eligibility laws have changed to allow this? Because I recall Jamie Young once looked into the possibility of playing for them, but wasn't eligible@ the time due to not having been born there/also being a citizen of another country.
