Yeah there is a correlation with senior success, but a loose one

you could have a team flog a powerhouse but it mean nothing in the long run, you could also have a team get flogged and have a terrible youth tournament but then have good careers

Results over several cycles matter a lot more than any one world cup
You just need to look at Nigeria. Interesting how big nations like England and Germany don't do too much at junior level despite the players being in their top domestic competition.

Countries like Ukraine, Honduras and Uzbekistan do very well at youth level and are generally there. USA a permanent fixture too.

who was he again? I've lost track of trolls

I'm pretty sympathetic if someone vents about the exclusion of traditional clubs and the lack of p&r. I was always a bit more baffled by people going red in the face about the coach courses we have. Even if they are bad, seems a bit of a jerk move to take it out on the kids (or some posters kept coming from anarchy to 442 to have a random dig at decentric after every negative result. That was pretty weird stuff)
Camberwelldjores. One of the most toxic people. He was a massive Japan lover which was fine hit the way he'd tear into me and others just wasn't on. I do recall quite a few writing PMs to say ignore him.

I don't recall a single post that wasn't filled with poison. He also started to take on some mature posters who started to put him in his place.

Look guys I've taken my happy pill, so I'm thinking if we can play like we did against say Japan when we face Italy we are in for a chance but i feel there squad is on another level. Our boys do have that mongrel mix in them so i know they wont back down however after watching the highlites of the Nigerian game if u have a few opposition players with flair they will pick us apart like Nigeria did. I think we have a better chance at getting a result against Agentinia then Italy. But who knows.

I did find that if you are outside the top 20, anomolously good results at youth level are correlated with a small bump in future national team success

Also for teams outside the top 20, there is an average of about 1 extra transfer to Europe for every level you go up in results. So Qualifying gets 1 extra transfer, Making it out of the group gets another, winning a knockout game gets another etc.

I don't even remember him! Didn't even have an ignore button on 442. I must be good at ignoring trolls :D

Given it’s not the strongest under 20 team out there it’s a good opportunity for the other players to step up on the international stage.

It’s always good Australia is at these youth world cups, I remember the days although through Oceania we used to be in these tournaments and was on SBS so a nice nostalgia moment as well.

I'll be watching our defence and mids closely as their dancing on the ball was very risky. Okon also with no look pass intercepts and slips. Just keep it simple when you're surrounded by 4 blokes.

I'd rather them back themselves to use their skills to break the press. The rest defense should have enough bodies to make it worth risking losing the ball if they are coached well (which they seem to be)

Yeah I mean if they can weave and get those tidy passes through then that's OK. It's more the silly holding or risky turns on a fast moving ball that need to be assessed.

This is also some time after qualifying so hopefully a few players have packed on a bit more muscle or fitness.

I'm surprised we packed the 2 friendlies so close to the first match sicne I worry about fitness at youth tournaments - bodies aren't used to a game every 3 days

anyone have the lineups for the nigerian v australia match? Can't find em anywhere

So who's missing from the U20 team? If its just Irankunda and Younis we've done well even though it would be amazing to have them along.

Lino, tho probably by choice
Waddingham is injured

Not sure about others

cuba have a weak team. i think their best eligible player is actually paul okon - who is happily playing for us :)
That was certainly my hunch. Denting another team in the group wouldn't go astray. Draw with Italy or something.

I remember eyeing off egpyt at the olympics when we had spain and the argies. If like to have some points in the bag before the last game in case we are gassed
