I really like the idea to get a look at fringe Roos. I don't think it'd be an easy tournament but we'd go okay I reckon.

It's one game at WC or AC, but he has to be fielded ie not just in the squad but actually gets time, even if only a few seconds, on the pitch.

And it's 4 games needed to lock him in at Under 21. The wording allows a change of association if the player has been fielded in no more than 3 matches in official or unofficial competitions. So, before he turns 21, he can play 1 or 2 or 3 matches for the Senior National Team and still be eligible to apply to change association, provided his last match was at least 3 years previously.

So friendlies count? I was under the impression they didn’t, as people on here are saying we can’t lock in the likes of Segacic until the World Cup, as we only play friendlies until then.
And I wasn’t aware of the 3 year thing. On that basis, Alex Robertson for example is unable to change association until June next year (if he wanted to) as his last appearance for Australia was in June 2023.

No, Friendlies don't count. The wordings refer to competitions - official or unofficial.

I tried to copy and paste the actual FIFA commentary for you, but I can't seem to manage to do that.

If you really do want to see what FIFA says on this subject, just Google "FIFA Commentary on the Rules Governing Eligibility to Play for Representative Teams".

It's quite an illuminating read and can dispel the misconceptions that many people seem to have regarding this topic.

I don't think any of this applies to Robertson. Yes, he was under 21 when he last played for Australia, but both his games for us were Friendlies, not "official competition".

Robertson is now 22. He will be locked to whoever selects him to play for their National team in an official competition. Assuming he accepts the call-up and actually gets on the field.

My error. The actual wording is "non-official".

Official competition is defined as "a competition for representative teams organized by FIFA or any confederation".

Ergo, a non-official competition would be (my guess) a competition for representative teams not organized by FIFA or any confederation.

I think, to keep things pertinent to the post made about capping promising young players in the ASEAN Football Federation competition, that this competition would likely fall into the non- official competition category. Because it is organized by the ASEAN Football Federation, not by the Asian Football Confederation. That's my interpretation of things and I'm very happy to stand corrected if I am mistaken in my view.

held our own until half time

We didn't really look like we had a plausible plan in either box though, even in the first half they had the better chances
 
At that age being that little bit older helps running over the top of the other boys out there that's the reality of it.
No suprise that 3-2 scoreline where we were the ones scoring as the game went deeper.
