by the way our first u17 asian cup qualifiers

we look physically better than previous years, mostly a bit bulkier and stronger.

Game following familiar pattern - dominating territory, chances at a premium, Jordan's counter attacks looking threatening but so far our speed at the back is better than usual at mitigating it

we lack a bit of creativity in the middle and I don't see any technically outstanding players like okon or badalato at the moment, but still we are technically decent in my opinion

0-0 at half time

we lack a bit of creativity in the midfield, I guess there are no standout creative 10s in this generation? There has been some 1v1 ability from our wingers which has gotten us into some dangerous positions but they lack a good cross and the shooting has been pretty weak from range

on the plus side we look a lot more comfortable than normal against the counter attack due to better athleticism imo

we start the 2nd half trying to dribble through their block 3 times in a row. I don't mind that, if you have more athletic backs you can take more risks with posession

in a way when playing counter attacking football deficiencies in defense can create overcaution in attack. Conversely, a solid defense can lay the platform for more enterprise in attack since you can trust them if something goes wrong

hit the left hand byline and cross into traffic to the 8 Bhutan players in the 6 yard box who clear it. Rinse and repeat maybe 40 times that half

no effort to go through the center, or even the right wing

and back to hitting the by line over and over. Doesn't matter if someone central is making a run....

Decent performance there from the u17s as we vary our attack a lot more. Raids come from central areas and out wide as well as the occasional shot from range

I was going through the U17s and the 2009 cohort looks stacked. You’ve got Antonio Arena (Roma), Gianluca Okon (Club NXT), Johann Wicklein (Getafe), William Millwood (Partizan) and Mathew Baker all turning out for other youth national teams at the moment, and then guys like Besian Kutleshi (Melbourne City) and Lennon Biggs (Wrexham) who aren’t even being selected.
