Australia launches 2031 Asian Cup bid

True. Having seen it in my travels, the entire SEA is football mad. They may not be good at it but they love their soccer.
Agree that there is good footballing culture in Southeast Asia having also seen it in my travels in addition to being in the active support section for a Singapore league match last year.

If we did end up hosting it, hopefully Adelaide gets to host games since it missed out in 2015.

Then again the male model occupying the Premier's seat atm seems more interested in Vicky kick and schmoozing with the Saudis on the golf course.

I feel like the Women’s Asian Cup shoulda hosted games in places like Adelaide. Only three host cities.

I'm still pissed at Malinauskas for that.

The dickhead is going all in on this Gather Round for a reach around Vicky kick crap and this LIV Golf nonsense yet couldn't be bothered putting up for host city rights for a continental tournament for the world's biggest sport.

No, that despite being an absolutely football mad continent they prefer to support English teams over their own.
Ohh, Eurosnobbing. Yeah that’s pretty big up there unfortunately.

This season, the Super League in Indonesia has been getting an average of 7,314 people per game but a total attendance of 1,623,780. The figures really vary, since the highest was 56,989 for Persija Jakarta’s 2–0 home loss to Arema Malang, while the lowest (excluding matches played behind closed doors) was just 94 for PSBS Biak’s 2–1 loss at home to Persik Kediri. For context Jakarta is the capital of and the largest city in the country while Biak is an island of Papua on the western (Indonesian) half of New Guinea.

AFC has a minimum capacity of 20,000 for an Asian Cup. Coopers is too small (it has been increased to 20000 on occasions) and Adelaide Oval isn't compliant for a competition (although one-off games are allowed).

Penrith is increasing to 25,000 and Central Coast Stadium to a 365 day use 30,000+ stadium by 2030 (eateries, bars, etc facing a new Dane Drive plaza). The Stadium use at the moment may not warrant it but it is being looked at as part of a transport, development and waterfront strategy. This would probably place it between the Newcastle and Melbourne stadiums. Pretty wild when you think those two will be bigger than the largest in Melbourne and Western Sydney

TBH that is what Adelaide probably needs - an urban redevelopment site that a stadium can anchor for new housing and transport infrastructure.

These are the 'rectangular' stadiums in front of Adelaide.
