I thought I'd have a crack at a best XI of all time for Aussies in Britain.

Viduka
Kewell ---------------- Emerton
Cahill
Mooy ------ Jedinak
Lazaridis - Marston - Moore - Neill
Schwarzer
I thought it would be fun to open it to include Scotland. Also not just focus on the Premier League era.

Who would you pick? Do what you want. Pick lost dual nationals if you like.

Guys that missed out in no particular order include Bosnich, Slater (won the EPL), Popovic, Muscat, McDonald, Grella, Okon, Vidmar, Garcia, Sterjovski, Wilkshire, McGree.... i've forgotten heaps no doubt.
Thought it would be fun to reminisce.

Bosnich was the only player that was discussed as being the best in the world for his position whilst in Britain. Schwarzer has longevity over him, but no way was he remotely better than him at the top of his game. I would also give Johnson a guernsey as he was a regular at Liverpool whe nthey were at their top.

I get ehat u are saying, but I personally weight longevity highly

pre acl kruse wad the 2nd best winger in australian history for 6 months but not way he makes my all time socceroos xi (i know this is an english based xi)

Another thing, I always felt a bit shakey when bosnich was in goal for the roos compared to Schwarzer

Schwarzer had some howlers of course, but also had some absolute rock moments which I don't remember from bozza?

I personally didn't include players that chose England. But if you did you probably have Johnston at right forward, Emerton at right back and a tough debate about Marston v Neill v Moore at CB.

It would also be a debate between Dorigo v Lazaridis at left back and Dorigo probably pips Laza imo.

I don't have enough recollection of Bosnich but our defence may have been leaky back then. I guess Australia has always been used to heads down conceding goals.

I couldn't stand Schwarzer around 2001-2003.

Question - WHY isn't Craig Johnston ever considered or thought of fellas ? Thanks Hillbilly mentioning.
Is it your age ? :)
I mean its the best Aussie XI in UK of all time right.
Who has any tally of english medals near him ?
Does he not rate as one of our best ever ?
Therefore I'd be taking out either Emo (sorry) or Jedi considering the formation Quicky has put up.

Schwarzer
I don't get some of the dislike at some periods.
Hard to be consistant week in week out at such a high level - even the very best screw up now and then.
He is our best to date imo considering such a lonnnng career in the EPL.

Possibly age but also he never played for the Socceroos (which is very disappointing).

true that mind you he did leave the subject to be pretty open.

I guess some people didn’t read the description. Or maybe people thought he was good for his era but not in later eras.

I chose not to pick players who chose not to play for Australia. I'd have picked Johnston and Dorigo if I had. But it feels a bit like claiming Viera or Simunic if you were picking an all time XI.

He's in the top 10 most capped players in the EPL. Very consistent.

Mate I wasn't setting hard criteria to follow. I was saying do what you want. If you don't want to pick guys that chose England thats cool. Equally if you do want to, thats cool too.
