Are there players where he has done similar things in the past? Have I missed some?

The complaints I'm aware of about his style have usually been around incredibly high standards and expectations in training and particularly off the pitch. I'm thinking Nichols or Bulet who got him offside.
I'm all for that within reason. I think you've got to be careful not to become a cult. Popovic is totally hypocritical in a selection sense when it's not merit based but no one dare call it out in a press conference. Makes you wonder how Arzani survives but they know each other well.

Selection criteria is not applied equally to all players. This isn't a Popa thing, this is football.

Arzani was picked because he is super talented. Bratten was picked because he was consistently good for years. Mathews gets picked because he is a talented prospect. Some work out, some don't. They all meet a different criteria for why they get selected, and that is fine.

For every player who is picked, there is probably another player with similar resume who misses out. Why did Velupilay get picked but not Segacic? It isn't Popa's ego, or hypocrisy. He just picked based on the only real criteria, who he thinks can do the job he needs.

Fair points. I'm referring to Popovic mentioned minutes played and form and that's where Triantis, Balard, Botic and Segecic got shafted. Irankunda meanwhile is part of some 'misunderstanding'. The camp was a good idea and the wiki shows he's had a look at a lot of players.

Talk about minutes isn't real and you shouldn't be listening if a coach says it. Again this isn't Popa, this is standard in football.

For some players, regular minutes will get them picked, other players will get picked without minutes. You can't blame the coaches for saying it (they do wantplayers getting minutes) the fault lies with anyone who takes them seriously.

How lazy and superficial do coaches need to be to resort to that? Talk about lacking any kind on standing or integrity. This is what annoys supporters. They'll say one thing then do the opposite then cry foul when called out. Certainly some coaches use this excuse in press conferences and it times it's justified albeit also very convenient.

Kasey Bos not even in cup squad and the bloke playing left back is basically in the Silvera role of late. Mwene bench too.
This move always seemed at least a season or two too soon for Kasey and his involvement throughout pre-season looks to have proven that widely held view.

Hopefully 90 mins each week in the reserves and then a loan move in Jan?

Featured all pre season. He's either got a knock or a loan is being arranged. Odd to be left out having played a full half the week before.
