Interesting. Barring injury this season should show us a lot more of Farrell and I wouldn't be surprised if he has a higher ceiling than we realise.

His dogged determination and tenacity should take him far.
For us Mariners fans who still despair his departure... it's more his technical brilliance as a defender and his unrelenting box to box motor.

He and Bos will fight it out for the next ten years.

2 starting xis today for sunderland with triantis playing the second half

Some flattering words for bos

I feel it's valid as you can see how well his body is growing and the technical skill is there. Remember Argentina in China? Solid display with little experience. Basically the EPL coaches and programs would see him grow immensely.

Popovic played him wrongly against Saudi where our players smothered each other.

I rate Farrell highly and if he plays he should be pushing for a starting spot. I just don't see him as a wing back in Popovic's system (which was where the discussion started). The wing backs in this system are responsible for our width as our wide forwards invert. I don't see that as Farrell's strength.

I think Farrell can and should be pushing for the LCB role, and he has the potential to start there. I see him competing with Burgess, Rowles and Iredale rather than Bos, Bos and Behich (maybe Silvera if he keeps playing there and does well - Elder should be in the discussion too).

Iliya Shalamanov-Trenkov and Saad Moukachar both unused substitute for Spartak Verna in a 0-0 draw with Beroe in the Bulgarian top flight.

Hadn't occurred to me that Irvine's injury was so lingering. Probably got 3 weeks until Cup.

Delighted to see some major love for Triantis on the Sunderland boards after their latest Portuguese friendly. He played second half and some said he was MOTM 2nd half. Plenty said he needs to be part of the squad for the new season.

Mind you, my delight will dissolve like a puddle in midsummer if he picks Greece.
