This rule means people sometimes fall through the cracks in a way that seems a little unfair. If the Dad had later moved back overseas at the age of 30 and then had a son, that overseas-born son wouldn't be eligible to play for Australia, even though the son could have applied for and been granted Australian citizenship at birth through the Australian citizen father. I am pretty sure that's what happened with Jakolis.

This caused confusing for me originally.I thought as you my son wasn't eligible to play for Australian Youth because we had no parent,grandparent born in Australia but the section I'll paste below explains it clearly why my son and maybe Jakolis can.But I'm not sure if his father was naturalised in the past.

  • Step 1: The Father's Status: The father became a legal Australian citizen at age 18.(Naturalisation)
  • When he moved to Germany at age 40 and had a son, he was still a legal Australian citizen.
  • Step 2: Legal Citizenship (Article 5): The son successfully obtained an Australian passport via descent. He holds a permanent nationality not tied to temporary residency.
  • Step 3: The Genuine Link (Article 7): FIFA requires a direct connection to avoid "passport shopping". Because his biological father holds legal status as a national of Australia, the son bypasses the need to have ever physically lived in Australia.

Rapid (and tilio) are off to a flyer this season..

Didnt realise what a historic club Rapid are actually. 32 league titles! But only 2 in the last 25 yrs, ever since Salzburgs Red Bull takeover changed the league.

Savicevic played there after leaving Milan.
