Possibly because of a bad Europa League campaign (knocked out in the league phase), finishing 19 points off first and going trophyless. I expected them to go deep in the UEL, challenge for the Eredivisie title and win at least a cup, but they did neither of those things. Therefore I’m unsurprised that he was sacked, even though Feyenoord still finished second and qualified for the Champions League.

In saying that, I’m not sure sacking him is the right answer unless they’re willing to replace him with a quality manager who could do those things. Ange Postecoglou springs to mind: a currently unemployed manager who plays attacking football and is known to win trophies, plus he’d be coaching a Socceroo in Jordy Bos.

Someone needs to interview Makrillos at the end of his career. Long time overseas professional who’s always flown under the radar.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst Returns as Head Coach

Feyenoord has reached an agreement with Giovanni van Bronckhorst on his appointment as head coach of the first team. The 51-year-old Rotterdam native has signed a two-year contract, with an option for the club to extend it by a further year.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is Jordan Bos' new head coach at Feyenoord and will be under contract at the helm of the side for the next two seasons through the end of Eredivisie season 2027-28, with club option for season 2028-29.
