No game time for Bailey Wright, who was an unused substitute for Lion City Sailors in their 3-0 Singapore Premier League win over Geylang International.

Martin Boyle starts for Hibernian as captain in their Scottish Premiership championship group opening game against Hearts. Jack Iredale on the bench for Hibernian. Cam Devlin not in the matchday squad altogether for Hearts.

And Boyle with a goal!

Re Devlin, from the BBC: "Hearts head coach Derek McInnes tells BBC Scotland: "Cammy (Devlin) has picked up a wee strain. We're obviously disappointed but hopefully he's available for next week." Doesn't sound like anything to worry about.

Goal Boyle. He must read these forums to shut us up.

If that's all it took to send Triantis away (I don't believe it is) then he has a heart the size of a pea and would never become a decent International Player for us. The facts are he was picked in one squad and didn't get game time, got picked in the next squad and refused to come then skipped to Greece. Good luck to him in his career but if we had cap tied him when he obviously doesn't want to play for us then he wouldn't be much use to us. We are better off with players who want to play for us.

Mate, the very simple point I am trying to make re Triantis is that if Popovic had played him for a minute in those qualifiers, he would have been cap-tied to us and we wouldn't have lost one of our most promising young players.

Whether or not his obviously quite transactional approach to international football would have made him a worse/less effective player for Australia is pure speculation on your part, but I'd just observe that it sits uncomfortably with the fact Triantis was happy to play for (and indeed captain) our youth teams for years and acquitted himself well while doing so. The same can be said for Segecic, but Popovic never had as obvious an opportunity to cap-tie him in the same way as he did with Triantis.

Martin Boyle started and played 64 minutes for 9-man Hibernian in their 2-1 Scottish Premiership championship group opening loss to Hearts before being subbed off. Ante Suto came on in the 64th minute for Hibernian, replacing Martin Boyle. No game time for Jack Iredale, who was an unused substitute for Hibernian.

That Tete headbutt is disappearing offline fast. Not only are there copyright questions but Saudi football probably rushing to get it taken down as much as possible and the West Asian Confederation too.

I don't think I have ever looked forward to a Socceroo debut as much as I looked forward to Segacic's only for Popavic's ego to get in the way.

With so many less deserving players to be given a chance just to let this guy fall out because our coach was trying to prove a point just hurts.
That was exactly my sentiments.

I had been pumped for the World Cup for that reason but Popovic's ego then handing Segecic to Croatia destroyed it for me.

I get the really strong impression Poppa shit tests players like an immature teenage girl. “How much do you really love me”?
Yep, the bloke should never have been given the Socceroos job after Arnie left.

Very good manager in the A-League but his ego doesn't suit being an international coach in modern football.

Unlikely Poppa will pick him this close to a World Cup, but the same probably applies to Scotland. Hoping that in that case, post World Cup will be a bit of a rebuild with retirements and the Sept FIFA window a good chance to blood some of these new players. Reaching out to them in the months between the World Cup and then will be crucial. Having a few of them as train on players at the World Cup can’t hurt either.

Coach complacency and arrogance got us here. Compound that with agents and family in your ear and it's a redeioe for disaster. Of course we'd like players to be 100% committed but when you're young and getting mixed signals you came easily be swayed. Look at how young people change jobs these days.
Great post. I completely understand why Segecic made his decision.

I don't like Popovic as a coach. I don't like his attitude to players; I don't like the football he coaches.

He had zero qualifications for the job. One decent season at Wanderers when they were given all sorts of first season advantages. After that, relentless mediocrity.

I will be glad to see him gone.
