Davidson often deeper than the rest. McGowan couldn't defend. Pure luck his cross made it to Cahill. A bigger fluke that the goal itself.
Harsh on McGowan. He had the vision to put in the cross to Timmy so should be given credit for that.He was not really an international class defender and in that particular match was often marking Arjun Robben who switched sides frequently and who was a nightmare for much more accomplished FBs.

Sainsbury was outstanding at the 2015 Asian Cup and this was after his patellar injury. In the final against South Korea he provided a great through ball to Luongo to open the scoring. He was very good at the 2018 WC but seemed to regress after that.
Agreed, but it took him a while to get back to those levels and what might he have achieved without the injury?

I'm glad for his sake that he took the Chinese money when it was available.

The problem in 2014 were the fullbacks. Wilkinson deferred to Spiranovic (Spiranovic while younger was the senior Socceroo CB partner). The fullbacks while they fed Timmy well had no idea how to keep a straight line in defence.
1st choice fullback in the squad (Franjic) was injured after 60 minutes of the first game. He only started after Rhys Williams was injured in the lead up. McGowan must have been about third string at the time.

Imagine how much better that team could’ve been with pre-injury Kruse instead of Oar, Rogic instead of aging Bresciano, Williams and Sainsbury in the backline (hard to criticize Wilkinson’s performance though).

Curtis Good was also injured in the lead-up and would likely have made th squad.

don't mind Silvera as much as some on here do (he's actually won me round slightly after I thought he was useless in his first season), but he doesn't really have a spot in our team when even 80% of the squad are fit. He's 3rd choice in four different positions, so he's a useful guy to have around, but he's played last than 30 minutes cumulatively across Hellberg's 5 matches so far, which tells its own story. I think he will probably stay in January, due to the versatility I mentioned, but I think he'll very possibly slip down the pecking order and out of the matchday squad altogether.

I think I'd have him ahead of some others. Handy late in games as a sub.

I think he's more SPL level than Championship. Maybe a club like Hibs would consider signing him. The fans don't really seem happy with Chris Cadden but I'm not sure if Silvera would be a big upgrade.

Trouble is SPL is a different type of football even with higher passing numbers. Upper League One has more fluid play. Loans only make you a pawn. Given his CV, a club like Magdeburg in Bundesliga 2 isn't unrealistic.

He's been in League One but didn't make much of an impact although, tbf, I think they were playing him as a winger. Always agreed about loans, better going to Hibs or any other club that will buy. If he could cut it in Bundi 2, that would be best of all.
