Sainsbiry became a big dissapointment for me. Seemed to play it cool, but switched off and effed up way too often which may have contributed to his lack of game time in Serie A.

Apologies to those offended by my frank language, but I seriously believe that with a better mind set he could have had a better career.
Watching old replays he made some unbelievable mistakes. Was quite poor to be honest

Sainsbury faded away poorly. The Inter transfer was just a stunt by the owners given the Chinese ownership of the club.

He delivered in numerous big games at his peak and still has Griezmann in his pocket.

Which games were they? I know Japan at home he had a bad game and lost the ball in crucial places.

I recall a last man slide tackle Honduras away which was great. I think the final 18 months or so was his worst. Head down a lot when we conceded.

Remember the interview for his 50th cap was very emotional and I thought he'd have another run.

You overlooked Jedinak's prowess with the spot kick. Legenday for the Socceroos.
Teams sometimes need the ugly footballer leader. Jedinak's other attributes trumped the opponent in key areas. Given his poor ball play, Ange was totally convinced of what he brought too.

In saying that, he's fortunate we didnt have other coaches as Luongo, Mooy and Rogic were prime. Irvine entered too and we had good rotation of all.

The 2 japan games under arnie stand out

Did he play in 2014 world cup? I remember the backline being a bit clownishly bad then

No 2014 World cup. I think he was short-listed but got injured.

Japan away he seemed to let out a lot of frustration and relief when Hrustic scored. We're all different but sometimes you want to ask these players why they have such puzzling demeanours on the pitch.

Sains was never the same player after his training injury in the Netherlands.

He shattered his patella on a sprinkler while executing one of his patented slide tackles and took many months to recover. Never quite recovered to my mind.

The problem in 2014 were the fullbacks. Wilkinson deferred to Spiranovic (Spiranovic while younger was the senior Socceroo CB partner). The fullbacks while they fed Timmy well had no idea how to keep a straight line in defence.

Davidson often deeper than the rest. McGowan couldn't defend. Pure luck his cross made it to Cahill. A bigger fluke that the goal itself.

I was referring to his play at a defensive midfielder.Yes he was outstanding at free kicks and penalties-never missed a penalty for the Socceroos I believe.

Sainsbury was outstanding at the 2015 Asian Cup and this was after his patellar injury. In the final against South Korea he provided a great through ball to Luongo to open the scoring. He was very good at the 2018 WC but seemed to regress after that.
