Bradley Tapp played the entirety of Johor Darul Ta'zim's 3-0 Malaysia Super League opening day win over Kuching City. Ryan Lambert played the entire match for Kuching City. Shane Lowry came on in the 73rd minute for Johor Darul Ta'zim. No game time for Dylan Wenzel-Halls, who was an unused substitute for Kuching City.

Not realy a myth,

We had 8 players who achieved 6 seasons of regular football (25 games) in the big 5 which has never been achieved before or since on top of players at the top of 2nd tier leagues

It also gives me an excuse to watch old games, but i did recall seeing both chipper and neill in the back 4 before guus

Neill in particular i think was a natural cb that was forced wide (rb didnt suit him imo) by his club. He was a little short for a cb at 185cm, mind u the same height as moore

We played 442 under Farina and i assure you Chipperfield had not played in the backline prior to Gus coming in.

If you look at our starting lineup against England in 2003, our backline was Neill RB, Moore and Popa CB and Lazaridis LB. Chippers and Emo our wingers, Kewell and Viduka our strikers (kewell in free role), and this was pretty much our 1st choice 11 between 2002 and 2005 with grella, Cahill and Bresch gradually overtaking Okon and Skoko in the CM roles.

When Gus came in he completely shook things up, using firstly a 3331 wingback system with Emo and Chippers wingbacks (with Neill Sweeper) amd then later a 4231 with Chippers and Emo proper fullbacks with Neill a CB.

This radically changed the team for the better, along with Cahill becoming a global star taking the mantra from Dukes and Kewell, and was utilised further forward as an AM than Farina had been using him.

I wonder if we end up having to play someone out of position again at rb/rwb if we have depth in other positions?

If herrington plays regularly this season as a u20 cb, that will be the closest we have to someone achieving kewells feet but in a different position

The defensive positions definitely look a strength this generation

Bonnici bench for Hibernian (Malta)
I know the rules don’t allow for anything but parents and grandparents but I wonder how many Maltese players have family (e.g. cousins) in Australia. We’ve got the largest Maltese diaspora in the world but only a handful of Aussies ever played for Malta (they’re starting to scout more Aussies and Brits though).

He was listed as a free agent from Accrington Stanley in 25/6 and heard nothing since - until that tweet.
He has being living in Queensland for the last few years. He suffered a lot of injuries in his last few years in England. Don't think he is playing anymore. Beast of a guy. Was looking forward to watching him progess.

I rewatched the 2001 games this year and he was phenomenal.

Yep that year was literally a highlight reel... the one I liked the most was he was just outside the box outside of the foot into top corner no one even tried to close him down lol.

I think people are forgetting Nessie is only 20 and he's arguably playing the same if not a higher level.. they are different kinds of wingers though.
