I'm a bit suspicious about these corruption charges. Xi Xinping just arrested China's most powerful general on corruption charges. Been suggested he has to make it look like he's cleaning up corruption rather than eliminating a challenge to his authority. No doubt there's plenty of corruption in China but are these clubs guilty of anything extraordinary and exceptional? We may never really know given the murky and secretive world of Chinese politics.

I work with chinese nationals and they say that the football league is dodgy. They go after them because it is impossible for the authorities to ignore. They don't threaten the CCP or Xi Jingpin or prestige like the Olympics so there is no official shadow directive. 20 years ago there was a video where the ref kept the match going for over 120 minutes, the goalkeeper stood by the upright post and the striker missed (admittedly I always did that but it also explains why I am not a professional), eventually the ref, GK, players and coaches were jailed.

That's interesting. However, I don't see those extreme examples today in the CSL. But if actual match fixing has been happening then yeah it makes sense. The timing of the crackdown just seems a bit coincidental but not ruling anything in or out.

They are in a slump atm. However, Roda's victory was good not only good for Roda but also for den Haag, as it leaves Almere (who were on a winning run) one fewer game to close the gap between them and den Haag and automatic promotion.
