Asian Champions League 1 and 2 thread

Gee that was awful, not a single shot on target in 90 minutes

City playing their 2nd team in the cup so they have no match fitness was completely bonkers

What is that kick off time? What a slap in the face to their 5 supporters.

And so yet another dismal result in the ACL proves to the knockers that the A League really is the joke they said it was. Sigh.
What do you expect when they haven’t played a proper competitive match in five or so months.

If it is that much of a joke, maybe you should fuck off to a forum where football in Australia is not a joke.

can we stop with "go to another forum" comments when someone disagrees, even if said in jest (someone said it the other day to @AUFC_Fan for opposite reasons)
We all care about football in Australia and being a bubble helps no one, even if disagreement gets passionate

Was it the second side? Melbourne City have developed the habit of barely announcing their new recruits, don't make any announcements if they have been playing friendlies, so it is impossible to gauge who is their first team would be and their fitness levels.

Don't think it was the second side because they had Aziz Behich start as captain along with Leckie and Atkinson being in the starting XI, but bear in mind that Japan are known for being a powerhouse in continental and international football also.

They post on social media and send emails to be fair

Went to the match.
Thought Melbourne held their own in the first half.
Were defensively very strong, giving Hiroshima few real chances.
Leckie was taken off at half time and thought that made a big difference with Hiroshima able to take control in the
second half. For all the hate Leckie gets for the Socceroos, when I watch him live, I am always super impressed with how much
work he does. So much energy spent closing down opponents, blocking passing lanes. That sort of effort is not readily recorded in
stats but prevented Hiroshima getting any control in the midfield.
Lack of match fitness also likely began to impact Melbourne in the second half.
Once wholesale subs were made for Melbourne, I thought City were right back in it.
Have to comment about one player, Caputo. Not sure what City sees in him but obviously they have a lot of faith.
To me this was another match where he contributed little.
For a centre forward, rarely scores and few assists.
Doesn't win long balls and not great at holding the ball up with his back to defenders.
Also his effort at pressing is infuriating, trots casually around while his team mates are working their asses off.
Think City has an excellent defence and solid midfield but they will struggle to score in the Champions League.
Now if they had a solid CF of the Fornaroli/Berisha type, I think this team could actually go far in the Champions League.

You seem to have taken a vitriolic dislike to me, and yet I am someone you don't know at all—so much hostility on the basis of absolutely nothing.

Thing you should consider, SB, is whether in the course of your normal day-to-day life, meeting people in person, you would ever take this level of aggression without reason into a public space.

It's all too easy to indulge in this kind of behaviour online - its akin to road rage, with people behaving in obnoxious ways they never normally would because they are in a metal bubble.

Thanks Gazor. I read that post and thought, where are we heading with this stuff? Unjustified, unnecessary, and unpleasant.
