Asian Champions League 1 and 2 thread

Kind of amazing how few big chances Macarthur have produced. I don't recall any?

Nearly every shot from distance

Surprisingly few aerial crosses given who they have up front

They also doing too many variations on corners which are ineffective
just get a good cross in to sawyer/dukes head

They will get an injury time set piece from the edge here

would love a consolation goal to help the coefficient

Macarthur end up drawing 2-2 with Bangkok United in their AFC Champions League Two round of 16 second leg game, but lose 4-2 on aggregate and their Asian continental campaign comes to an end.

I suppose the silver lining is I don't have to watch any macarthur games in asia for at least a couple of years

Melbourne City's AFC Champions League Elite round of 16 fixtures over two legs against Buriram United have now been confirmed. The first leg will be on March 3rd in Melbourne, kicking off at 6:45pm AEDT, whilst the return leg is the following week in Thailand with the match kicking off at 7:15pm local time.

Watched a replay of the Mac game. They had plenty of chances to score in the second half.

It seemed to help having the big striker, Sawyer, on as a twin focal point in the attacking line, along with Duke.

A lot of the aerial crosses were nullified by the central defenders or Bangkok keeper though.

Talbot hit the post with his cutting inside and left foot shot from range too.

I think Mac should have won 3-2 on the balance of play, but they weren’t good enough to overcome the 2 goal deficit from the first game against Bangkok.

Do we have any Mac supporters on G and G?

Harsh!

Mac beat ACL stars, Melb City, 6-2 in the AL a few rounds ago!

This isn’t like you Grazor!
They have been pretty hard to watch to be honest, a real labour of love

Interestingly, A league form is slightly anti correlated with asian form

I gave some thoughts about what went wrong on the latest pod

I’ve enjoyed the improvement of both Mac FBs, Talbot and Scott.

The ball distribution over range and ball winning of Brattan. Plus the effective work in tight spaces of Caceres.

It seemed simplistic when Mac played the flat midfield or bowl shaped midfield in a 4-4-2.

I think the elimination of Mac was because of defensive lapses.

To clarify - Transitions.

This term is now used in the NC to describe the Defensive Transition and Attacking Transition - plus counterattacks that occur in the DT for the defensive team . And the AT for the attacking team.

IMO Mac struggled as a team to reconfigure a compact defensive shape in their DTs - the 6 -10 Sec main moment when they lost the ball.

The balls played into the box were too easily repelled too.
