Are Brisbane Roar the new Nixs of old?

I don't know either. Somehow I just think Valkanis would be more comfortable setting a team up to play low block counter-attack. I have no rationale for that, purely instinct. I'd say most of his managerial training has been at clubs that play on the front foot - Mel City, Ajax. And I think that's how he'd like us to play. I'm not quite sold on him as a coach that can pull that off. Let's hope I'm wrong about that! We shall see.

We play in Suncorp and Kayo looking towards the day when we have Perry Park centrally and perfect sized and both the Redcliffe attendees and Brisbane attendees can make games.

Yeah, Kayo is other side of the city for me also.

Personally, I think a new Gold Coast team is by far the best possible investment opportunity in the A League right now, especially with the Roar being pretty much a north Brisbane side now. People outside of Qld generally don't understand just how far north the Brisbane CBD Kayo Stadium is. Playing there literally makes the Roar by default North Brisbane Roar.

Pretty much anyone except the most diehard of diehards anywhere from Logan southwards is excluded from Kayo.

If a Gold Coast team doesn't happen and the Roar stay as is, a south Brisbane A League team is urgently needed. Playing out of where is the question.

Pie in the sky wishlist: a rich Foley type investor who constructs a stadium on the southern fringe of Brisbane. What a great prospect - a south v north Brisbane rivalry.

GC is still quite a long way for me, as is Kayo. I'm greedy, lol, I want BR around central Brisbane and a GC team, despite it historically being a fairly difficult sporting market. Nevertheless, if we have ambitions to expand to 16 and perhaps beyond then GC should one of those, imo.

Ross Aloisi had them playing competitively, but was on the first plane out of there as soon as a better option was available. Other than him, they have all been not quite good enough. Personally I would have dropped Valkanis at the end of last season. He demonstrated he was out of his depth and couldn't handle the pressure. I then would have then picked up Diles, who handled the pressure exceptionally well at MV. Never lashed out and blamed others and didn't pick-up unnecessary reds.

I haven't closed the door on either Moon or Zadkovich, probably an unpopular opinion. I think Moon could come back into the AL and be successful. I'd be particularly interested to see how he'd go managing one of the strong squads, as unlikely as that seems. And what I liked about Zads was the progression in the team under him. Clear improvement in the back end of the season.

(Granted, ours is more extreme.)

And it’s probably a bit much to ask an owner to spend the probably $80–100 million AUD at a minimum to fix that issue, given the league’s current situation. However, being a better-run football club might help more with government funding for that issue.

Which leads to the issues that are directly at the owners’ door. They have either funded us extremely poorly, hence all the money issues, jumping at any transfer money offered, lack of investment into the squad, youth academy being canned, etc., or been oblivious to management that can’t run a budget.

Fortunately for us, it seems Kaz/Zac can run a balance sheet, but unfortunately, they have zero idea about employing the correct people in key footballing positions. Three seasons into their time, and we have had 12 head coaches across the ALM/NPL program. So the question remains a lack of funding or lack of care & commitment

But hey, what’s the alternative? Support Moreton City? I’d rather buy a Rangers top.

A stadium requires an owner so cashed up that 200 million is small beer. There are many such people - Bill Folely being one.

The issue is the city of Brisbane does not have a 15 to 20 k stadium... that's not the owners fault.

Perry Park should have been am Olympic development but alas anti Football insured it did not happen.

I think everyone wants to see Brisbane do well for once even if they play football ugly under Valko. They have a whole state to them self to select players from but yet they crash and burn season after season. I don't think the club is poison like WSW who spend big for no return it’s just that i feel that the club itself doesn't know what it wants to be.

It’s not a club. Never has been. These days it’s just a team with no ambition that turns over most of its squad every year. Any player half decent gets sold at first opportunity.

You really have to wonder why any decent player would want to sign for the club these days. It's like a once lovely house that has been left to fall apart for lack of care by absent owners.

Reminds me a little of when my brother started work in retail and they told him to say Richmond if anyone asked what AFL team he supported - since they were never a chance of winning so no-one would start a fight over it.

Yep....that's certainly the nuclear option. Emotionally a lot of people would understand it but the brand carries a fair bit of baggage now.

It's not at all fixable. A complete reset is required!

Practically, though, governing bodies are usually reluctant to kill an existing licence and start completely from scratch. So it’s not going away.

Maybe a forced ownership change, a significant rebrand/rebuild, or a new club being awarded a licence while the Roar is allowed to wither or be absorbed.

Whatever happens if the Roar are in Brisbane then the A League will never be anything here.

Mind, at the same time, simply removing or replacing the Roar doesn’t automatically fix the structural problems either.

Agree that we need a new team in Brisbane along with a side in the Gold Coast to foster rivalries with Brisbane Roar but they shouldn't be disbanded altogether based solely on their poor on-field performances.

Well I totally get the “don’t disband them just for poor results” argument but that on-field form is a symptom, not the core disease here....

A lot of "football people" in Brisbane just don’t gel with the entire Brisbane Roar theme anymore. It’s not only the results. It’s the whole package....

The ownership, the constant stadium uncertainty, the three quarter-empty dead as a doornail Suncorp atmosphere, the sense that the club is being managed rather than built, and the lack of any strong local identity or long-term vision that feels like it belongs in this city.

When a club feels like an imported franchise with temporary uncaring owners and no proper home, it becomes hard for casual fans (and even some long-term ones) to form a real emotional attachment.

Got to completely disagree with this one.

The stadium issue has been discussed at length throughout Australian football circles, and I reckon you'd find it's the main issue for any potential new club or ownership group looking at the Roar. It's the reason you don't see any serious second bids, Aus Champs sides, or prospective new owners showing much interest in the club.

I completely understand your issues with the club, but for me, I don't see why the nuclear option would fix them. You'd still be left with an imported franchise with no connect good or bad, and no proper home and only sovled the potential uncaring owners. If you're trying to convince new ownership to invest in a league club in Brisbane, why not retain the established brand with its wider recognition across sporting and football circles rather than starting again from square one?

As most know I'm no fan or supporter of the closed league for that’s the prob first and foremost.
P/R would sort out the chaff - for a club no matter who owns it like BR's circumstance.
Its either put up or ship out back to lower leagues.
There is a place for BR no doubt about that for the parochial Qld'r but they are even struggling to stay on board (put aside results) as we see.
Its a sporting heartland like all our cities - closed league rewards "FAILURE" in our game not like those egg ball games here but that’s what we have.
A supporter will ride the wave through thick and thin when you lose and or demoted with the hope you recover your backbone and get back up to the top flight.
Roar's situation is the perfect scenario/example in a city that luves "contest" vsing other States let lone normal club league games that this model is "choking" holding back the game period in a hugely populated city.
