Melbourne Victory lost 1-0 to Brisbane Roar in the last game of A-League Women matchday 12, with Daisy Brown scoring her first professional goal and the only goal of the game in the 56th minute. Brisbane Roar have now defeated Melbourne Victory twice this season and move into the top six, whilst Melbourne Victory remain fourth on the ladder.

Looks like City will run away with it but as I said earlier today about transfers that team is absolutely stacked and I would expect a few players to leave for overseas opportunities and then the rest to go in the near future, especially if the Dub doesn't go fully pro (though I think City are fully pro? Or maybe they just have a lot of players on pro contracts).

Sydney FC end up losing 2-1 to Newcastle Jets in their A-League Women matchday 7 catch-up game after Charlotte Lancaster scored the winning goal in the first minute of second half stoppage time. The result sees the Jets move up to seventh on the ladder, whilst Sydney FC remain second from bottom.

When are we gonna win a fucking game?
Hopefully Sydney FC win a game sooner or later especially given the strength of their playing list, but they have a tough run in their next two games after the bye with back-to-back road games against Melbourne Victory at Home of the Matildas and Perth Glory at Sam Kerr Football Centre. I'd say if Sydney FC continue their winless run then Ante Juric will no doubt be getting his marching orders come season's end, possibly earlier.

100%. The problem with the Dub isn't the quality, since it actually ranks relatively highly compared to other leagues in the world (I think it's like 10th or 15th?). The problem is the lack of professionalism.

And yes, it can be done. Canada finally started their national league (the NSL) up last year and it's fully pro. Dare I say that professionalism in the ALW is actually more important than pro/rel in the ALM.

Absolutely should be done but, of course, the problem is who will fund it.
For me, FA have a role to play since the Matildas is such a great ‘cash cow’ and will need more players from the local leagues rather than relying on clubs overseas to develop them.
Great discussions to be had for those who are interested.

It’s not unrealistic at all, it just needs people with vision to implement a strategy to accomplish it.
For me the rewards exceed the cost.
I'd like to believe it, they claim 11 million in extra revenue would pay for itself (or 1 mil per club)

how much are tickets to alw clubs?

Interesting news on the old metrics:

The A-League digital engagement across the A-Leagues, KeepUp and Dub Zone channels meant the APL had three brands in the top 10 most engaged social profiles in Australian media at the end of the Women’s World Cup – an audience sitting there ready to be re-engaged and retargetted towards the league to fuel their ravenous football appetite.

But the flow-on into direct transactions or interaction with the league was in isolation because of the brewing financial chaos that was about to ensue.

Interesting news on the old metrics:
I presume you are referring to the chaotic situation in the APL at the time, if so then nothing has changed re the poor financial situation of the A League administration.
The domestic women’s game needs to separate itself and operate in tandem with the Matildas thus leveraging from their success.

I don’t think the establishment of a separate women’s game administration would rely solely on ticket revenue, a much broader vision would see revenue from a myriad of streams.

Yeah some of the points will cost more than others. I would like the pfa to have players involved with marketing more than they are and try free marketing. I think a lot of our corporate marketing might cost more than what is sunk into it.

I was a little confused by the 40:40:20 gender split for the board. Is the 20 unspecified or gender non-binary or something else?

From what I’ve read the idea is to have the players involved in marketing similar to what happens with the Matildas.
There is a huge market out there for women’s sports and I don’t think football is taking advantage of it.
