Age grade Matildas teams thread

You’re clutching at straws, Prakash is not a defender so that rules out any comparison there and Halmarick creating A chance, having a shot on target and leading the golden boot race have absolutely no comparison to Prakash’s work rate up front.

I’m not having a go at any player as Japan was far too good for our girls but sometimes it’s better to take off the rose coloured glasses. 👍
What team wears rose?

Japan beats us us nearly every time in men's and women's football

The curriculum needs to be skills focused, not strategy or pace/power
Andy Harper was talking about this after our horror SheBelieves Cup opener when Japan smashed us 4–0 in Houston. He said it’s system vs system and our system fails compared to theirs.

That was a historical low point for us based on rankings (which don’t account for the fact that women’s football has advanced a lot since the early days and continues to do so). We just had a terrible Olympic campaign, the Marty Sheargold situation brought us down, Sam Kerr was injured and involved in legal struggles from something wrong she did pre-Olympics, Tony Gustavsson left and we had an A-League coach in Tom Sermanni as interim, etc. The team was at an all-time mental low, arguably even worse than the pay strikes. Players at top sides underperformed in the green and gold and the only thing keeping the team afloat was the tremendous continued support from the approximately 1 million true fans.

Tom Sermanni was not an A-League coach, he was a former Matildas coach as well as formerly coaching the USWNT and Football Ferns.

Even though Avaani Prakash is not a defender, when facing tough opposition like Japan players need to put in both attacking and defensive efforts regardless of their position, and Skye Halmarick had more or less the same work rate as her from an all-round perspective.

I form my opinions based on what I see and not on Opta Data or whatever it’s called.

If Avaani Prakash performed well based on what you see then that's fine but both her and Skye Halmarick need to be putting in the hard yards on Sunday along with the rest of the girls if we want to be getting a result against the reigning Asian and world champions North Korea in our quarterfinal.

That goes without saying and I’m sure they will.
I look forward to watching the game and I will give my opinions based on what I see.

10 current Westfields Sports HS girls in the U17s squad for the Asian Cup. So many more ex students in the older squads.

Lots of Dub stars go to sports high schools, especially Hills or Westfields. Even if you look at the Tillies you’ll find most are former students of sports high schools. Not all though, Clare Hunt for example graduated from Grenfell High in her home town of Grenfell in country NSW.

It's likely this will continue to be the case with the future Dub stars and Matildas prospects who progress through the farm system especially with the Emerging Matildas Championships underway this week which is a key part of identifying talent from those specialist sports schools.

I guess that’s why few players (male or female) come from Tassie or the territories (also due to lower population but even there’s a lot of regional representation from other states, especially NSW and Victoria). Belgium similarly has few players for the Red Flames who come from Wallonia but plenty from Brussels and Flanders.

State sports high schools as well as private sports colleges are indeed a good source of future ALW players who may potentially become national team players.
Joe Montemurro is also urging clubs to establish academies for players from a young age to help widen the pool of talent.
I don’t know if your so called ‘farm system’ includes these sources.

The specialist sports schools and academies established by clubs are feeder sources into the Matildas farm system in that future Tillies prospects from the talent pool are identified as part of the talent identification process and start to progress from Junior Matildas through to the senior national team setup when they are admitted into the system.

The ‘farm system’ as you call it sounds rather Orwellian and I honestly think it doesn’t happen the way you describe it.
The ‘system’ , if I can call it that, is very ad hoc which Montemurro is trying to change.
Hopefully a much better system is put in place.

The farm system just refers to the youth teams, doesn’t it? Doesn’t every country promote players from youth teams?
