Japan are definitely one of the best sides at age grade level along with North Korea in terms of their ability and potential and unfortunately the Matildas farm system does not stack up compared to those teams. How is it hyperbole?
You have a very ‘colourful’ way of describing some players, shall we say!How is it hyperbole?
The so called ‘farm system’ doesn’t exist. When you have a system you need a plan to effectively execute it and we don’t.Japan are definitely one of the best sides at age grade level along with North Korea in terms of their ability and potential and unfortunately the Matildas farm system does not stack up compared to those teams.
The Matildas farm system essentially refers to the age grade sides but agree that there is no plan which means that tactics cannot be executed effectively and we struggle to contend against teams of a high calibre in major tournaments. The so called ‘farm system’ doesn’t exist. It’s all very ad hoc which leads to such inconsistencies as the 1- 1 draw with Lebanon as against the 2 nil win over India who beat Lebanon 3 nil. I know there are inconsistencies at this age level but just look at how Japan blitzed the group. They obviously have a plan. The Matildas farm system essentially refers to the age grade sides but agree that there is no plan which means that tactics cannot be executed effectively and we struggle to contend against teams of a high calibre in major tournaments.
Willa Pearson has been starting for Sydney FC and outperforming senior players since she was 14 years old. She’s been in the New York Times. Sure I’m passionate and sure it’s descriptive, but that’s just how it is. If she was rubbish I would say so lol.You have a very ‘colourful’ way of describing some players, shall we say!![]()
That’s fine but you haven’t explained how she would have made a difference in the game against Japan.Willa Pearson has been starting for Sydney FC and outperforming senior players since she was 14 years old. By being a better player? I’m not saying we would’ve won, nothing can change a 5–0 result except a forfeit, I just think we could’ve defended a bit better. That’s fine but you haven’t explained how she would have made a difference in the game against Japan.
I’m sure all the players were defending as well as they could and obviously the coach didn’t see the need for Willa in this game.By being a better player? I’m not saying we would’ve won, nothing can change a 5–0 result except a forfeit, I just think we could’ve defended a bit better.
Willa Pearson started the first two group stage matches for the Junior Matildas at the under-17 Women's Asian Cup as captain so should be a talismanic player for us, but clearly there are problems with the tactical system if our defensive line is conceding five goals and we're failing to find the back of the net altogether against Japan, in addition to only managing a 1-1 draw against Lebanon.I’m sure all the players were defending as well as they could and obviously the coach didn’t see the need for Willa in this game.
I really don’t think it’s down to one player so saying this player is better than that player is not the way to describe. The fault lies in the systemWilla Pearson started the first two group stage matches for the Junior Matildas at the under-17 Women's Asian Cup as captain so should be a talismanic player for us, but clearly there are problems with the tactical system if our defensive line is conceding five goals and we're failing to find the back of the net altogether against Japan, in addition to only managing a 1-1 draw against Lebanon.
The Lebanon game can’t be the defence’s fault. That’s on the attackers.Willa Pearson started the first two group stage matches for the Junior Matildas at the under-17 Women's Asian Cup as captain so should be a talismanic player for us, but clearly there are problems with the tactical system if our defensive line is conceding five goals and we're failing to find the back of the net altogether against Japan, in addition to only managing a 1-1 draw against Lebanon.
I’m not blaming Willa she is just a cog in the wheel. Hopefully she will go on to be a world class ‘superstar’.The Lebanon game can’t be the defence’s fault. That’s on the attackers.
To be fair the defensive line was also partially at fault because we ended up needlessly conceding a goal when we should have ideally been keeping a clean sheet against Lebanon. The Lebanon game can’t be the defence’s fault. That’s on the attackers.
Agree that there are tactical problems across the entire Matildas farm system but our age grade sides have always been reliant on certain key players like Willa Pearson, Skye Halmarick, Shelby McMahon and Peta Trimis so it's nothing new to tout certain names as being talismanic figures in the playing list.I really don’t think it’s down to one player so saying this player is better than that player is not the way to describe. The Junior Matildas should be getting the job done easily against Vietnam in their quarterfinal tomorrow and secure qualification for the under-17 Women's World Cup later in the year for the first time ever but ideally we'll want a full strength playing list for a possible semi-final rematch against Japan as opposed to rotating players again.![]()
One win from Australian football history: Teenagers' 'huge' opportunity to end 20-year wait
The Junior Matildas are one win away from qualifying for their first FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup through the AFC pathway, facing Vietnam in a defining quarter-final in Suzhou, China. As women’s football rapidly evolves across Asia, Australia’s next generation stands on the edge of a breakthrough...football360.com.au
Seems the squad was deliberately rotated as they had already qualified for the next stage of the tournament and it was a chance to give the best(?) players a rest. A bit defeatist maybe but could also turn out to be a master stroke?
