A-League transfer news/rumours

A Popovic, R Grant are two that spring to mind, plus the French centre half as well.
Rhyan Grant is one of the mainstays at Sydney FC and has been there since season 2008-09 though so surely you're not expecting him to go after all those years of service time in addition to the fact that he is Sky Blue through and through.

Sentiment should never come into it. His defending is chronic, and pace he had two years ago has well and truly gone. Long term servants have to move on at some time, just like the others.

Sydney FC conceded 25 goals last season. The best in the league & that was without Alex Grant and Marcel Tisserand for the majority of the season. Also Rhyan Grant played 30 matches last season. Stats are fun aren't they ?

Stats are a pile of shite. If you watched all of SFC matches, you'd be amazed at how low that total of goals was. How we made the final was more about the rest of the league, than ourselves. In my 21 seasons attending, that was probably the worst team i have witnessed, even under the Farina years.

2012–13 was definitely worse, our defence was genuinely horrid and Wanderers won the premiership (but thankfully lost the grand final). Unless you mean for the women's then 2025–26 was definitely the worst.

What often happens to compensate for loss of pace as a player ages is increased speed of thought.

It served Kevin Muscat well late in his career. He read where the play would unfold before anybody else.

Haven’t watched SFC enough this season, but Grant could be similar. He was only dropped from the Roos because of perceived lack of pace.

With due respect stats are invaluable, SB.

In one of G and G Podcast guest columnists, Stefan Syzminski’s Soccernomics, which he co-wrote with globally esteemed football author/journo, Simon Kuper, SAF, Arsene Wenger and Sam Allardyce, used stats well before the rest of EPL coaches. The former duo had resounding, premature success. Now all EPL coaches use comprehensive statistical analysis to analyse players and teams.

Mistakes can be made though. SAF incorrectly read that Jaap Stam was making less tackles per game at Man U. He sold him to a big Italian club, where Stam went on to have resounding success!

I do not now, or will i ever mean the women's game.

At least we went forward in attack in 2012-13, and we had a great laugh at the games. ADP also helped.

And they mainly pass backwards and sideways and bore the collective arse's off of all of us.

Macarthur have culled Tomislav Uskok from their A-League Men playing list, with the two-time Hahn Australia Cup winning defender leaving the club at season's end after 143 appearances across all competitions over five years of service time for the side where he found the back of the net 14 times.
Wow!

Surprised.
