A-League Mens 25/26 - Round 8

Nix so woeful, Jets the much better side - just don’t know how we can keep, playing this high press and get done every time for it. We keep playing like this the. We will be down there with Adelaide fighting for the spoon.

Wellington really need to sack Chiefy. I really can’t see him taking the squad any further and I suspect he’s a big reason as to why their fans are staying away.

Some really bad finishing from both sides, but shit, we should have banked a heap of goals today, but we still have a negative goal difference. As for the Nix, I would get rid of Eze before the coach, find a goal scorer

Didn't watch the game but just saw the goals on the news. The Jets 3 goals came from 2 wicked deflections and a keeper error. Was the score reflective of dominance as Nomates suggested?

Usually sit with a group of around 15 or so at Victory games on the second tier, collection of friends/cousins..etc. Only 3 were there last night, big relevance problems for the a-league atm
I'd be curious to hear their opinion on why they aren't going

After watching the Nix/Jets fixture, the Nix copped it from applying a lot of Squeezing Pressure in a Full Press high up the pitch. They did well breaking up a lot of Jets build ups started in the Jets' defensive third , but of course they conceded space between their midfield line and defensive line.

Hence, Jets often played accelerated attacks that exploited that Nix space and had a lot of big chances in the first half, despite Nix territorial dominance. Nix weren't quick enough to reconfigure their formation in their Defensive Transitions.

The first half was played at a very high tempo. For a number of posters on here who have said they hate any balls passed backwards, they would have loved the first 45 mins - action aplenty and a lot of contested ball clashes in transitional play.

Clayton Taylor made a difference! Jets have missed him this season.

Delianov made some superb saves in between the sticks too.

Once Burgess was injured and subbed off early in the game, that was a pretty young Jets team.

Haven't seen Nix play for a while.

So this Full Press is applied in most games?

I think they would be better mixing it up. Full Press, Half Press, then Full Press, Half Press........

Thought Nix were pretty well as good in the first 45 mins. Delianov made some superb saves.

Attendances are rapidly adding up to spell Crisis.
The figures are really, really concerning.
I have no idea how the APL turns this around but we are rapidly approaching dying days of NSL Territory.

I don't think that BR lost their mojo. The other clubs are paying them more respect, hence their games are harder. And I think that everyone knows who Lucas Herrington is now. Of course once he departs, BR's defence will collapse because neither Bility nor Valkranis are up to it. Bility is just not AL level.
It is more a clear mental change in the way we play our whole game now.

I call it a loss of mojo but it may equally be a strategic decision to conserve energy in the heat - and knowing it is going to be hot for awhile yet.

We slowly pass the ball round the back and through Bouzanis when we have options to bring it forward. We are turning back our own attacks at the slightest impediment and 'dragging' our opponents back down field - perhaps cunningly at the expense of 3 or 4 or our forwards moving their whole team back and forth in the heat.

When we decide to attack it is most often through a long ball over and they are just not paying dividends for us.

Earlier in the season, against good opposition, we attacked from so many directions throughout the game that our opponents could not shut them all down and we had opportunities often.

Now we are 'deliberately' sitting back with the ball and choosing to pass backwards.

I'm still calling it a loss of mojo because we are not trying anything other than safe play followed by hoofball. It is asking for trouble with Herrington going, as you say, because suddenly we will have no attacking rhythm and no defensive resilience.

Not good, but a comparison to the NRL, who have an average attendance of 12,720 form 1957-2025. That is not overly great, despite the media coverage that they receive, but they keep rolling on. Too many doomsayers follow football in this country.

Its not doomsday, its reality.

The average attendance of the A leagues men this season will be close to half that number you have quoted there.

and this is based on one round

AI tells me (so it must be true - haha). Total for this season is applying the % decrease to the previous year. There will be variations - with different fixtures in different rounds and different clubs travelling differently from year to year.
