A-League Mens 25/26 - Round 8

Must have been a few in the the western upper tier to get to that (strong members area so possible) - but actually looked less than that.

Sadly I can only reiterate my previous post in which I stated that I would not be surprised to see the Mariners fold at the end of this season

I know there’s a number of reasons for CCM having low crowds such as the uncertainty surrounding the ownership, terrible weather, having clearly the weakest squad in the league and no sign of the club appointing a new head coach but the crowds shouldn’t be anywhere near as bad as they are.

Definitely seems like the fair weather fans have dropped off now that CCM aren’t good anymore.

33% down on last years attendances already.

Big chance to be 40+% down by seasons end.

Thats untenable.

They spent all their disposable income that fortnight on the Matildas. That's the excuse I'd be going with haha

I don't know if they can afford to have the Mariners go under, APL supported us for a few years, they should do the same for them.
The problem as a whole is the style of play. Everyone plays the defensive game these days, keep possession, play out from the back.
I thought the Jets were going to break the trend this year, but alas, we are the worst team for this style of play.
When everyone starts to play the aggressive attacking style, the crowds will return, but I don't hold my breath

That doesn't make sense tho because football is popular everywhere even teams that play defensive. The support has dropped off because of the mistakes the admin have made and also player merry go around.

The player merry go round narrative has been well and truly buried for around 5 years

Not for me it hasn't. You got kosta and brilliante playing for wanderers when they both played at Sydney.

Tell me if the players and the clubs don't care why should the fans?

Wow that’s two examples out of hundreds of players, a vast majority of whom have only played for 1-2 clubs.

And not only that, you he players like them in every league.

I don't care it's a reason why people would tune out of games. It's like if Gerrard lampard and scholes played for different epl clubs

Wanderers are having the run of the field today.

Once again it is good scrambling, solid defensive structure and a bit of luck seeing a cleansheet in the first half. Herrington at the back has been our mainstay so far with his positioning, headers and vision. The commentators are on the Herrington bandwagon today too - and justifiably. He is the difference between a decent defence and a cleansheet.

We miss Stajic as the best defensive midfielder we have had for sometime. Having Klein and O'Shea (mostly Klein) in DM has hurt our strength and ability through midfield. We are not getting through Wanderers - only around or over them.

Klein with some beautiful footwork at pace from time to time converting a close challenge into open space running. Unfortunately his accuracy with the subsequent pass has not been great.

All Wanderers have had to do is run faster and get in front of our player with the ball and we are turning our attack back into a CB/keeper option. No consistent pressure from us and Wanderers are confident and bold on the back of it.

I am not seeing anything particularly useful from the Hore/Long combination so far. As the commentators said pretty early, we are either going over our midfield and ruling Hore out of our attacking build up or we are going wide and ruling Hore out of our attacking build up.

Got to say Rush and Vidic upfront with strength and hunger is more effective against a dominant opposition midfield and backline than Hore and Long without decent service.

Ludwik has not been a dominant feature of our backline - but he has not been hideous. The number of times Herrington has defused a situation suggests it is an unbalanced partnership to me though.

Cracking shot from Borello in the lead up to halftime saved by a good effort from Bouzanis.

The game is a battle (not in the aggression/brutality sense) and I have to say Wanderers are on top except on the scoreboard.

We can play better but we aren't so what we 'can' do is meaningless unless we can settle and play instead of hoofing it and backpassing.
