A-League Mens 25/26 - Round 5

Seriously, Adelaide are what every club in this league should strive to be:

- Proper football stadium - Not trying to be something that they aren't (Melbourne city, Nix, Wanderers to a certian degree)
- Proper connection with the city - Have made Friday nights at coopers a genuine event
- Strong crowds - Only club without a derby to average 10k crowds every year since Covid (Starting 2022-2023 season)
- Good team - Always decent, never rubbish
- Able to weather a shitstorm when it happens (See this off season)
- Promote youth and sell them correctly
- Doing all this without a derby, and they wont get a derby for the foreseeable future

Just a good club from top to bottom. Only thing they need is a proper training centre.

Probably the best run club in the league if we are being honest.
Spot on, great run club.

They sacked veart and hired a youth coach with no experience and made questionable moves in the transfer season. Granted you're doing well I dunno if you're the best run club

The gist of his point still stands though. In an ideal world, every club in the league would emulate what Adelaide Utd does right, as well as Rich Peil-era CCM from a couple years back. If only😔

I'm not being funny but the stadium is just there and they use it? So I see it more as then taking the resources they have rather the club doing something on there own

Just noticed - Nix don't have a red dot in their Form section for last week and Wanderers show 3 red dots but only 2 losses (drew Round 3).

It is a funny table - Round 4 results show all the top 6 teams with wins and all the bottom 6 with losses.

They have to pay extortionate rent to Adelaide Entertainment Centre to use it. Plus Hindmarsh has been the headquarters ground for SA soccer in general for 65 years. Historical process has placed AU there, it's not like they stumbled by chance on an empty ground and decided to play there.

But I mean they are lucky to have it there.. Brisbane don't

Jovanovic on fire tonight.
He's had a fantastic start to the season & 5 goal involvements from 5 games. He's the wildcard selection that Popovic should've gone for instead of Al Toure. He's improved technically this season as well

That's poor goalkeeping from Redmayne. I think he could have held the header as it didn't have a lot of pace on it, although these days it seems like holding the ball from shots is a lost art. Having decided to parry it, he should have been pushing it wide or around the post, not back out into the 6 yard box.

Woeful Wellington, if we keep this up we are def in for the spoon this season. Jan transfer window cant cum soon enough.

Was Okon that great tonight or is the commentary just using him as the league poster boy? Had the audio on and just heard constant rave reviews.

honestly, I think he has been almost comically dominant this season. I haven't seen a 6 in the a league dominate this much. You have to look for different things when judging a 6 compared to a deep lying play maker where goals and assists matter more

I think he could walk into a championship, portugese, eredivisie or jupiler league side based on what I've seen, though it has to be remembered he didn't get a lot of game time in the second division, so would have to understand what happened there. Maybe he is inconsistent and we see that as the season goes on?

What I like is a midfielder who'll seek defensive jobs and ask for the ball.

He was alongside Youlley but I'll have to check their shape. I find if you put 2 mids together one can be lazy. Have a single player and it's their job to get stuff done. Perhaps Okon would be best served there for the national team as I've found him to be a bit off the pace trotting along.

Good news he's doing well as the A League move was to really hit things off.

so what makes him good is he needs to be more tightly marked than other midfielders, he only needs a yard of space to be effective. Add to that his defense has been really good so farScreenshot 2025-11-22 at 12.27.46.png
We need a 6 who can make two steps up, and hopefully he is the sort of player, and thats unpredictable. Teague was strong in the a league (not as strong) and is so far struggling in belgium. So you never know what weaknesses in your game get exposed when you step up
