To be fairNot to take anything away from the Jets this season. They were the best squad this season and deserved the title. It's all relative though. Their defensive record was not good at all and like every other team this season they also lacked consistency. Conceding 39 goals (5th worst in the league) and still managing to win the thing speaks more about the rest of the clubs than the Jets themselves. No A-League premier has ever had a GA that bad. For that reason, I reckon if you ask Jets fans how confident they are heading into finals, you might be met with mixed responses.
Milligan will have a bit of a task on his hands in the off season. He'll need to find replacements for Rose (8 goals) and (most likely) Taylor (9 goals) but more importantly he'll need fix those defensive issues. Easier said than done. I really hope he succeeds though as I believe he has what it takes to become a very good coach.
Looking at the last 5 games Jets have conceded 7 goals. That's not great. Obviously that is offset by the 11 they have scored, but still a big weakness. To be fair
Most of the goals conceded were in the first third of the season (23 of the 39). We’ve been pretty ok since then. Sure not the greatest, but not the kamikaze nonsense we saw early on. Also keep in mind we’ve scored 9+ goals more than the closest. 20+ more than 4th down.

I reckon one of the biggest unsung heroes, that nobody seems to talk about is Wilmering.
2nd only to Mata in assists.
7th in the league for chances created.
Plus he also picked up a goal.
He still has a year on his contract, but you never know who's willing to make an offer.
It's been refreshing to watch an entertaining team, most clubs have adopted a defensive first cautious approach, whilst fine, can be a bit boring if everyone is doing it. They have really highlighted that for me and I have enjoyed watching their games.Imo the Jets this season have been the best thing that has happened to the A league in many years. This is the first time in a long while that I have been able to feel optimistic about the future of the competition. Congratulations to Mark Milligan and his players. Now what we need is for Sydney to hire a coach who can get them playing decent football and Wanderers to hire a coach who can somehow sought out the heinous mess that they are. Sadly, I very much doubt that is Talay. I hope to be proven wrong, but his appointment looks to me as just another in a long, long line of poor decisions at the club.
I didn't think much of him and then I read a comment someone made halfway through the season about how good he was and I thought, maybe I have been Judging him with unfair bias, so I started to watch him. I think he would have to rate as one of the better LB in the league, certainly WB imho.Yep, you see, The Grozos effect
Great call. If anything, I wasn’t happy at the start of the season that Wilmering was starting haha. Now I’m scared he’ll get injured. Just goes about his business doesn’t he.
I've seen dumber redsLoved it.
Idiots who have to say "look at me" after scoring.
