A-League Mens 25/26 - Round 13

I think Roars main problem was replacing that midfield import we had (stajic)
Maieroni is looking the goods this game to partner klein and replace stajic
Herrington looked to be a tough loss too, but we have been ok this game
I think it is more that Herrington used to see things building and position himself to shut it down successfully.

Without him we are playing reactive football and relying a lot on last minute tackles and desperation.

Valkanis is often working hard to recover from a problem instead of preventing it in the first place.

As a defensive group and a defensive effort the team was fantastic tonight. We should have conceded a few more as someone who was watching on the edge of my seat.

A positive result no doubt and what a relief to have the whistle blow.

The whole time we were looking to play positively while a goal up we pinned Glory back and limited their runs to one or two players - which they were still able to do. As soon as we started to slow the play down and play defensively we struggled under consistent and effective pressure from the Glory attack.

I loved that we played with intensity tonight, and that we actually used the whole field to pass around and advance the ball. Sure we still dropped back to the Bouzanis long bombs too often, but we were not a one trick pony and Glory had to defend everywhere rather than just stopping the wings and long balls we usually employ.

Vrakas pissed me off big time. He does really good things in the build up of play, makes fantastic space and opportunities, then bloody shoots regardless of anything around him. Everyone in the ground and watching knows he is going to shoot no matter what.

Credit to Glory - all game showing the ability to get round and through us into the final third and only luck and desperation on the back of a couple of 'normal' game saving intercessions by Bouzanis. A bit reminiscent of Young - pulling off saves when a goal was a certainty to keep us in games.

Klein - hot-head aside (and I agree it is heavily coach influenced Hillbilly55), makes a difference when he is free to run forward.

I think that Glory's defensive set up (when we are bringing the ball out of our own defensive third) is one we like to play against. The partial sort of press where they only press one or two players and hang off a bit on others allows us time and space to pass the ball and run off each other like I have been crying for all season. We finally got back to passing between opponents, running off the bounce pass, and generally just making forward movements with some appearance of focus.

Our solo forward dropped back to the two-thirds 'line' of the pitch and allowed the next two or three Roar players to work with them applying pressure. We actually had two and three players surrounding the ball carrier to get possession back and despite Glory having some really nice vision and execution to pass off we then continued to apply that numbers pressure on the next player as soon as we could.

I think the commentators said it was a low 20s temperature? If so, that may show the impact hot conditions have on our playing style - since it does rely so heavily on people moving and pushing hard both with and without the ball.

Salas was awesome tonight - and not alone in that but he deserves special notice. McGarry was more involved than he has been lately and having those two on the wings gives us a lift when they get to contribute as they can.

Valkanis and Ludwik were far from perfect at the back but I have to say that as the game progressed I think they started to grow into the role better. A bit more time together and I think we might be OK at centreback.

Long still struggled to impose authority on the game but he was certainly more involved and effective tonight. Ruhs and Hore both played a big role in carrying the ball forward.

Maieroni is a funny one. He can be completely invisible and ineffective then suddenly come to life like he did later in the game tonight. I can't remember him being as influential any time like he was when he turned it on later in the game. A completely different player in my eyes. It is a lot like he suddenly realised that he can play football and not just go through the motions. Really liked what I saw.

Vidic was strong and effective when he came on - keeping the screws on the Glory backline with some very nice touches and body work.

Shaw's little cameo continued to impress me. He is a player to make things happen and (yes, I'll say it again) only 16 years old. it is not just slick ball movement or cleverness - he can use his body like an experienced senior ball player. Still early and no game breaker yet but another who I like what I see from.

Glory unlucky not to take a couple more chances. Neither side truly dominated the other although I do think the final score was the right one on the balance of play. Yes, of course I would say that ;).

both teams maybe deserved a point each , pretty even but Brisbane were able to put 2 away and we only put one away.

feel like a big opportunity missed as it was a great crowd even with Hoopsfest and the wildcats here in Perth .

but the commentating duo sounded like a married couple talking about football they were horrible towards both teams lol

I cannot understand VAR not calling the ref over to review that. What is the point of VAR if someone can get away with such an obvious act of stepping on an opponents wrist.

Just like when Davila was trying to get his yellow card against the Roar at Suncorp and got up off a Roar player by wrapping his hand around the Roar player's throat and pushing himself up. VAR ignored it - forcing Davila to try and get his yellow card a few more times before the ref finally conceded and gave him one.

Should have been a red for Ferreyra without any doubt at all but not even a walk to the monitor.

Confusing.

I find Grace Gill very knowledgeable, but I hate the way Teo throws questions to her and to the sideline commentators like Jacob Burns.

"So Jacob, what is the noise like from the Brisbane bench from where you are on the sideline? We all know the Roar coaching staff can be quite rambunctious".

To his credit, Burns replied along the lines of "Coaching staff from both teams have been pretty vocal".

Who would have thought Jacob Burns could be a diplomat and a statesman dammit.

I did have to laugh and as much as he is a Legend of the club ( to some people lol) i don't rate him at all as sideline commentator , yeah Grace is 100 percent more knowledgeable but Teo for me is very one tone , ( not that I'm saying its easy).

Bigger crowd than the wildcats playing at the same time, wild.

Such as shame we always fumble the bag when we get a chance to put on a show.

Cant see any club hitting 10k this week, expecting CCM to get another 1k crowd but gave them 2k for benefit of doubt.
City 0 v 2 AKL Crowd 4k
Glory 3 v 1 Roar Crowd 6k
WSW 1 v 3 Jets Crowd 7k
CCM 0 v 2 Bulls Crowd 2k
AUFC 2 v 2 MV Crowd 8k
SFC 1 v 3 Nix Crowd 9k
Keep up the good work NoMates :).

You put a smile on my face often enough - careful or you will have to change your name.

I'll bet the Jets are spewing over your tip for their game now ;).

I didn't see much fumbling - just an unhappy result for you in the end.

Anyone who went to the ground and has a basic understanding of football will know you were in it all the way and are a chance to come back for another show.

Or so I think anyway.

I was fully expecting 3 points with O’Shea out.

Credit to Brisbane, thought they played great.

We weren’t terrible, but Brisbane were better. Didn’t like the time wasting, reminded me of the Asian countries.

Wildcats had 12k as well but to be fair they didnt give away 5,000 free tickets, wonder if the Glory will do that again this season, at least it shows people will go if its free.
