A-League Mens 25/26 - Elimination Finals

Also partially influenced by which teams make the finals: Western United won the GF one year, Melbourne City in finals 2020-2024 and so on.
I suggest you look again. Not as consistent as I suggested, I agree, but that is a big fall from 23-23 to 24/25.

23/23 19,715
24/25 15,075

Will be interesting to see if the crowds bounce back this year. Based on general attendance, small downtick is my bet. I'll put a number on that: 14,000 average this year.

Auckland pushed up last year's finals. Will they do so again?

Will later do 5 yr rolling averages compared to club regular season trendlines to see if finals are declining faster

So does the winner of the grand final get the play off spot for the ACL elite or does it go to the runners up of the league table? If so looks like I was right in picking Adelaide to return to Asia.
It's most likely the runners-up of the league table at the conclusion of the home and away season getting the AFC Champions League Elite playoff spot instead of the winner of the A-League Men grand final which means that Adelaide United would be making their return to Asian continental competition next season and the Championship doesn't count towards anything except domestic or continental trebles.

Do you have the tv figures? They were half of my comment but I admit I was short of actual data.

In technical terms, that is, I believe, called shooting my mouth off.

Anyway, unless the viewing stats include streaming, they are meaningless.

So the AFL and NRL grand finals on FTA tv viewing numbers are meaningless too? Both can be viewed via cable/streaming but you will find the bigger numbers are on free tv. The same would go for ALM finals.

Complex picture. It is reasonable to suggest that the A-League audience is more directed towards streaming while a more mainstream audience like AFL or NRL is more directed towards free to air television. The question of how ridiculous the rating system is is a separate discussion.

I respectfully disagree. Attendances and viewing figures for the finals have been trending downwards for years, and I will be surprised if the downwards trend ends this season.

The last 2 GF's were the highest watched GFs ever. 2024 had a little over a million viewers, last year was slightly under a million viewers

They are NOT live on cable or streaming due to anti siphoning laws.

I know its our comp and all that comes with it, but the A League has some really tough competition. Particularly for people like me who can't attend games live. If someone - me as an example - has very limited time to watch football, do you choose the best the planet has to offer or the local comp? That's why there is no point reviling "Eurosnobs". They aren't snobs. They are simply making a choice based on quality. Personally, I manage it by being very selective and viewing local and international. I have a deep loyalty to the A League and have had a sub every year since the first season.

The value in a local comp is live attendance, which is why, if the APL ever does anything, they must find a way to bring back active support. TV is global entertainment business and the gravity of European comps is inexorable and undeniable.

The NRL and AFL never have to face this problem. They are tadpole sports that exist in their own tiny ponds. The A League is just one fish in a very large ocean.
Take your point on quality but the AL is not competing with the Euro leagues at the time.

They are, however, competing with NRL and AFL at the time.

I watch as much AL as I can but I also watch the Wests Tigers if they're playing (as long as they don't conflict with the Mariners as I usually go to those games).

your not understanding reading the between the lines his point though.
Ofcourse they are not competing on time and obviously against eggball games etc the point is the football fix's in abundance you can watch in other scales - then do your other to do's during the day or social commitments and think bugger it, I'll watch some games late in the evening or morning.
I think thats what he getting across Mr C.
There you go reagrds yourself, do you pick watching Tigers instead of CCM ?
You may say oh for sure CCM and cross surf.
Many others into APL nsw/qld would prob watch their nrl side for eg.

I said not in my earlier post.

Otherwise agree to disagree. You have all day on a Sat or Sun to organise your life. If AL football is important to you you'll watch it.

There’s Eurosnobs and then there’s flat-out gloryhunting poser scum, for what little it’s worth.
