A-League Mens 24/25 - Round 2

Aziz Behich has been issued with Disciplinary Notice. Match Review Panel to review tomorrow afternoon.

The action warranted a further look at the time to my eyes, but I can imagine him just saying he was losing his balance and put his foot back 'momentarily' to avoid falling.

How good is it that the lynchpins of the MV midfield are local and young players....Veladon and Teague have been superb

I've seen a lot of Valadon and Teague for the Aus U 23s, and more of Teague in the AL.

Valadon is superb on the ball as passer and mover in tight spaces, has great vision, makes good decisions quickly, and has a silky first touch - but he needs to get better as ball winner and his defensive running when the other team has the ball. So far this season in the two A L games played, Valadon has had a lot of ball. He has used it very well too.

If his teams ( Melb Vic or Aus U23s) are dominating, JV is a midfield general type of player, but if the opposition are controlling possession, he tends to struggle to break up attacks. He is overpowered physically, doesn't read the play well enough yet to make lots of intercepts and doesn't seem to have the acceleration off the mark, like a Jason Culina, to close down space and force errors.

Teague has lifted his ball winning capacity this season. He holds position well as a DM or single screener.

With young players of these two's high quality, I'm not as worried about 'potential' Socceroos with dual nationality overseas. If JV improves his ball winning these two are very high class midfielders and are improving fast.

ATM Melb Vic are playing some excellent football. They were last season too, but couldn't score.

The only full game I watched was Vic v City. Excellent game!

There are a lot of recent/potential/current Socceroos in both teams.

Saw the highlights of all other AL games in round 2. I'm disappointed that a depleted CCM are representing Aus in the ACL, because they've lost quality in Ballard, Nisbet, Farrell and Hall, that have been hard to replace.

Good to see that young bloke score 2 goals for Jets! The team were ecstatic with the performance.

And that is the major issue with the ACL.

I just find it strange that VAR didn't look at it all. It wasn't like they reviewed the footage and decided no further action was required. They didn't look at all. Vergos was obviously turning up the theatrics a bit, but any player would be doing the same if they just had their groin stomped. With a player on the ground, VAR had plenty of time to review the footage.
It could actually be worse for Behich now. A red during the game probably would have just resulted in the mandatory 1 match. Now with the MRP having a much more in-depth review he could cop a lengthier ban.

I could not understand the lack of attention at the time either - it looked blatantly intentional. Maybe they couldn't be sure in any reasonable amount of time and thought the MRP would be the best way to address it...? Surely they should have at least got the ref to go over for a look - everyone saw it and thought it as far as I am concerned.

Why?

They are here to stay. You need to learn to live with it.

Both the NRL and NBL have Kiwi teams. Why shouldn't football.
The difference to me is the international make-up of football.

We're in the AFC and they aren't, which can cause an issue. In all the other sports you listed, I am 99% sure that Aus and NZ fall into the same administrative region for their respective sports.

Yes, that's something that VAR would definitely look at...
Although, even if given a red during the game, I believe Behich would still have been open to further sanction/suspension than the mandatory 1 game, as straight red cards can be considered for further action by MRP.

They should be with us in the East Asian FC.

Yes, if that happens, then I see no problem with NZ being in the Australian league.
Heck, I'd have no problem with some sort of partnership between the FA and NZF to create a combined club pathway (where NZ clubs can also be promoted up in the event of pro-rel being implemented)

Behich has now been given a two game ban. In turn, he shouldn't be selected for Australia as this behaviour has no place in the game, let alone from someone in a leadership group.

The question is, would they choose to join the AFC world cup qualification pathway or the 'guaranteed' half chance of Oceania qualification?

I prefer earning it and having a chance to improve in the wider competition.

No idea what others would prefer. Probably a mixed bunch like everything football.

Gool old VaR doing nothing to act on it during the game. Red card would’ve made easier win for MV

OFC now have 1 direct qualification spot plus 1 play-off spot. Pretty easy for NZ to qualify for the WC now.

They would be mad to tinker then. As long as they play decent friendlies to get the cohesion and exposure in their squad they win all the way.

Or like in 2006 quali I think it was where they gave it to us, then took it back.
1998 - that's how Sepp got in. Promised OFC a direct spot, and then only gave the playoff spot.

The premise is more of "If AFC absorbed OFC, and then split into East and West, with around 5 spots each".
In that instance, based on current rankings, NZ is still in the top 5...
