A-league attendances

Good point, what does the 12 team average look like to compare lime with like
That's pretty much what I did here, no WU, no Macarthur, just the oldest ten clubs (you have to click "view attachment" to see the chart):

Another different look at the data.

How the 10 oldest clubs have performed against each other:

An uptick next season is definitely needed! If you have a look at the dip in 2010-11 and then the recovery, it's definitely doable jumping up again from where we currently are, but it's a lot harder without media support.

And below, the average across all seasons (orange) by week of the year. Four week rolling average in red.

One thing to consider with this is the scheduling of blockbusters and derbies. I haven't gone in depth with these matches, but I kinda get the feeling that the trough before Christmas is due to lack of big matches, where those are saved for season launches and New Year holidays. But that's just a guess right now. And then of course there's the launch of BBL, but that, and the heat, surprisingly don't seem to hurt the crowds.

There's a constant drop once AFL starts. A-League finals come just in time to arrest the drop, maybe could even start those a month earlier, and start the season 1-2 months earlier! It looks like the A-League can do well enough during AFL finals, although week one of AFL finals is a dead zone, this would be a good time to take matches elsewhere, or even have an international friendly like the Soccer Ashes.

Let’s also not forget that Macathurs average there is also helped substantially by the visits of Sydney fc and wanderers which are typically their biggest home crowds of the season
That is how average attendances work. The same would probably happen with Apia, or Marconi if they were to make the big league.

To be fair, they are now averaging over 4K per game. Still not good enough, but an increase.
I dont want to get into a back and forth and make this into an old soccer v new football thing, but if that’s the standard then fine, but apply it evenly across the board and open the books to anyone who wants to apply the inc traditional clubs. The original minimum standard put forth by the ffa when the league was starting was that clubs amongst other things should be capable of averaging over 10k a season minimum. If we’ve abandoned that as unrealistic, then fine, the original offical justification for kicking out the traditional clubs also no longer stands

Don’t disagree with you on any of that. If an NPL club were to pay whatever the fee is, and their ground met the requirements, I don’t think they would be excluded. It’s unfortunate and I don’t agree with it but that’s the reality at the moment.
Ross Pelligra paid $1 for Perth Glory.. Happy to pay for ALL the old NSL clubs to enter myself.

To be fair, he also paid off Glory's $1mil debt, is investing $4mil per year into the club, and developing a $1bil precinct including pitches. He's in a different ballpark from the Western United posse.
