A-league attendances

your clutching again though I'm sure you'll explain yourself to get out of the corner.
Play a short corner.
Yes mericans do have a very good college system give em that + academies yaddayadda.....
After all these years invested massively in football (incl college/academies/MLS) seems they have dropped off having players in top flight compared to 10+yrs ago ala Friedel/Dempsey/Howard/McBride + one or 2/late/current times Pulisic moved to SerieA, Adams/Richards are in mid lower table clubs, with all those $'s they have dropped it seems.

No matter the ownership of the countless Clubs across Europe (yep some merican billionaires also are franchise merican sport owners - spread their portfolio ala FSG to name one) I don't recall any newbie Club started nor straight in the top league/level.
Infact recall Red Bull purchased the playing license of fifth-division club SSV Markranstädt and worked their way to the top over 7 seasons.
Why are we even discussing this.

As Graz mentioned their system suits their ways to market no matter the sport/code.
They have their way due to the population/resource's and not wanting to be like other countries.
Their most successful franchise model Maccas (a fast food commodity) whereas so so many have floundered - replicating it to football survives there due to the countless billionaire gamblers (funny Lowy followed them as the brain child but lacked investors like there) - here its a recipe of struggle street surviving on fumes by the look of it.
I'm sorry it is what it is.
Only in your opinion.

BTW, how many Aussies are in top leagues these days.

Respectfully disagree with both LFC and Pat Jennings. Look at the USMNT squad, they have so many players playing in the Top 5 leagues right now: Balogun - Monaco, Weah - Marseille, Aaronson - Leeds, Pulisic - Milan, Tillman - Bayer Levekusen, Weston McKennie - Juventus, Reyna - Monchengladbach, Tessman - Lyon, McKenzie - Toulouse, Scally - Monchengladbach, Freeman - Villarreal, Robinson - Fulham, Richards - Crystal Palace, Cardoso - Athletico Madrid, and captain Tim Ream played 281 games for Fulham. In slightly lesser leagues there’s Trusty - Celtic, Morris - Middlesborough, Pepi - PSV, Agyemang - Derby (injured a few days ago and will miss the WC), and Wright at Coventry (scoring goals for fun and soon to be a Premier League player).

Most, maybe close to all of those players came through the US college system or the MLS. If Poch gets them playing well - which I doubt will happen, I think they will choke under the pressure at home - they could be scary if they can gel as a team. The sheer amount of quality and talent they have Australia can only dream of.

As for the MLS, in addition to young players coming through who will be moving to Europe, you’ve got players going to the WC like Messi, Rodrigo De Paul, Son, James Rodrigues, Facundo Torres, Miguel Almiron, Mbokazi (South Africa), the Aussie MLS players like O’Neill, Trewin, Herrington, and obviously the USMNT MLS players. Thomas Muller, Marco Reus, Luis Suarez, Hugo Lloris, Hector Herrera, and Wilfried Zaha among others are still great players, and you’ve got a bunch of Latin-American players that play for their national teams.

specifics ? and I'm sure I'm not alone just some won't post it up.

Feck all and not surprised one bit - were half a pin drop compared to billionare mls clubs x 5 odd nowadays.
With all that $ growth the last 10+yrs you'd think development would have hatched a line of players since those of yesteryear I mentioned playing abroad - the Japs for eg who have around 24+ playing top 5 leagues.

Kitwally its not near good enough with all its resource and most are light weights barring exceptions Adams/Richards, Pulisic has found his zone in the weakest SerieA ever.

Honestly I'm a hardcore fan and I'm starting to maybe not lose interest but get less enthusiasm. League isn't even going backwards it's just staying still. Apl have done a worse job then FFA for me

Am in the same boat although my team has been out of playoff contention for well over a month now. No finals to look forward too, not too many youngsters given a run, as much as i'd like to attend games, there is almost no point when that time and money could be utilised elsewhere. Matchdays were a fun experience, these days its honestly boring when there is nothing on the line.

I know Im flogging a horse that died decades ago but this could easily spike attendances if there WAS something on the line....

BA BOOM !
Least they can look forward to being in the same comp and go through the same/similar motions again and again.
Its very sad we ALL are in this situation more so for the whole game and its long standing supporter base.
Mono I know what your gonna say but you get what I really mean - open the doors, we're ok where its going for now but it could be a whole lot more as well if all was equal standing.

Do you wanna hear something funny. A couple of real died in the wool AFL supporters at work were complaining about being sick and tired of their club (Essendon) being constantly shit year after year, seasons after season... one said to the other "it would at least be fun if we where struggling and tghe following yerar we got promoted back like they do in the sokkah" That shocked me Ive never heard anyone from AFL land even mention it before... times are changing. ..

shows how much died in the wool they are not having a clue AL wise but learn from either the news headlines or the local NPL P/R goss.
Good stuff.
I lol re NRL as well for back in our young days their game used to have 3 similar to ours Ressies at 1 1sts 3pm.
Nrl had U23's first then Ressies say 1 followed by main game 3pm or later.
Least it had variety, saw up and comers etc - all gone just about the main game like AFL.
Oztralia unique.
We have what they wish for and don't make use of it.

Move on old boy, life has moved on. BTW ,the NSWRL averaged around 7,000, in them there glory days.

Stop looking back at times that were not as successful as you remember.

I have no cherish of the old days (barring the biff) just pointing out what it had/did as any of us Sydney dwellers.
Just like Melb afl it was on the news every night.
Again your the ticket holder.

I think every team needs one exciting player one senior Aussie and a exciting marquee that would be a good start. As you know I'm very against ex victory players I just can't get excited about nabbout I'm sure he is a nice guy.
