This is how the MLS is trending this season.

To be quite honest the MLS is not what I want to base anything on.It is an entertainment league - it doesn't develop players it is all about highlight reels and instagram likes. This is how a a nation of 340 million becomes an ELO ranked team of 41 (4th in CONCACAF) and dropping quickly.

You do know that football is a form of entertainment, as a whole. Otherwise why would anyone watch it. BTW, it is nowhere near being a top sport in America, much like Australia.

That wasn't my point. They pay millions for aging DPs but an 18 year old defender from australia can come in and star immediately. No settling in - just dominating from the beginning. The AM and strikers are paid well - but many of the rest make better money in the lower leagues.

Years ago they were a better sided - give it another 4 years at their current state of decline and they will likely be a 1550 side in ELO points. The league is not set up to develop players - it is set up to sell shirts.

Mls have unique advantages that are difficult to repeat here, 50 states meaning they can continuously expand and upoing the license cost then redeistribute the money. I suspect they continue to improve for a while yet

The interesting thing is what happens to older franchises. I looked at the crowd averages of the 18 clubs that were here 12 years ago, average increased in that cohort by 130 despite salary cap doubling in the same period.
Now an increase is an increase, but i suspect they see similar declines if the salaries arent going up so quickly.

Probably not a concern for them tho, because they can probably keep selling 50 or so licenses and then have a smooth transition to p and r

I am curious what would happen here if we just sold licenses to the highest bidder, regardless of where the club was and whether the club was new or old. 1 new club per year and keep expanding. It wouldnt be the same as the mls since you have a lot of clubs in the same city which probably means letting clubs go bust, but it would be more feasible than hoping long term trends around franchises reverse

Christ mate you’re really clutching for franchise good news stories eh.
Merican system that suits their game show style to sport.

You seem to have a fascination with ELO (Whatever the fuck that is), do you also like XG, as well. You guys seem too fixed on nonsense and not the actual game itself. No wonder football is boring as shite these days.

Remember the Americans develop their sporting talent through the college system, for all their sports.

Elo is a ranking system

Basically ELO is a more rigorous ranking system than FIFA rankings. It is generally considered the better predictor than FIFA rankings. And the Americans soccer community hate that the soccer team is the last one to get any money.

City with 3k last night. They will now have a decrease on last seasons attendance number and they hosted two derbies this season.

Get them to the south east immediately.

Go and pick up the temporary seats from Ironbark fields. Spray them Blue. Put them in place at Casey fields and play all home games there apart from Derbies.

Estêvão William (Chelsea) and Trey Nyoni (Liverpool) say hi.

your clutching again though I'm sure you'll explain yourself to get out of the corner.
Play a short corner.
Yes mericans do have a very good college system give em that + academies yaddayadda.....
After all these years invested massively in football (incl college/academies/MLS) seems they have dropped off having players in top flight compared to 10+yrs ago ala Friedel/Dempsey/Howard/McBride + one or 2/late/current times Pulisic moved to SerieA, Adams/Richards are in mid lower table clubs, with all those $'s they have dropped it seems.

No matter the ownership of the countless Clubs across Europe (yep some merican billionaires also are franchise merican sport owners - spread their portfolio ala FSG to name one) I don't recall any newbie Club started nor straight in the top league/level.
Infact recall Red Bull purchased the playing license of fifth-division club SSV Markranstädt and worked their way to the top over 7 seasons.
Why are we even discussing this.

As Graz mentioned their system suits their ways to market no matter the sport/code.
They have their way due to the population/resource's and not wanting to be like other countries.
Their most successful franchise model Maccas (a fast food commodity) whereas so so many have floundered - replicating it to football survives there due to the countless billionaire gamblers (funny Lowy followed them as the brain child but lacked investors like there) - here its a recipe of struggle street surviving on fumes by the look of it.
I'm sorry it is what it is.

College sport in the states is more about fleecing alumni for funds to keep the college afloat than creating athletes...

$$$ Yanks have enough of this to spend on nice 30k stadiums and in most instances own these outright. We do not.

Even the Oceania Club of the Century don't own there own stadium, what hope does every other club in this country have!
